Wondering what the fuss is about wool dryer balls? I stopped using fabric softener with our laundry shortly before Maggie was born. Not only was I tired of paying the extra cost of buying it every month, but I found out that there are a lot of chemicals in dryer sheets and liquid fabric softener that I didn’t want to keep using in our house. Have you ever heard to use dryer sheets to keep bugs away from you while you’re outside–well, that trick really works–but I’m sure the reason it works is that THEY know to stay away from the chemicals in them!
As I learned more about using cloth diapers with Maggie, I also learned about wool dryer balls. Have you heard of them or tried them yet? While great for cloth diapers, wool dryer balls are great for all of your laundry!
A wool dryer ball is a felted ball of wool that you use in your clothes dryer to help separate your clothes. Having several in your dryer creates a constant motion that allows for more air to circulate around your wet laundry so your clothes will dry faster. The more dryer balls you use, the less time it takes to dry a load.
- help reduce static – wool fibers can absorb static cling
- naturally soften clothes due to the friction of the balls against the fabric
- makes clothes fresher and smell cleaner – since wool has the ability to absorb toxins and odors
- reduce your dry time by 10 –25%
I got my first set of dryer balls about a year and a half ago and I’ve been using wool dryer balls and loving their benefits ever since!
The more dryer balls you use, the better they work. Our clothes have been softer and I’d say that it has shortened the drying time of our laundry by about 15%. They have worked especially great with out towels! I love ’em!
Wool dryer balls are better for the environment AND your wallet! I’m pleased to have them bouncing around my dryer!!
The cheapest place I’ve found to buy quality wool dryer balls is at Amazon.com. These balls are my favorite. Happy laundering!
