We have well water and, recently, I decided that it was time to invest in a Berkey. I know it’s common for people to search out a filtration system when they have city water as they are seeking to remove fluoride as well as funky city water taste. So you may find it odd that, as country (farm) dwellers, we were looking for a filtration system too.

Yes, Well Water Is Good But….

We have been drinking our well water for over 20 years now. Many years ago, we had a door to door salesman come and try to sell us a several thousand dollar water filter system. However, when it came time to do his ‘water test demo’, he stood there dumbfounded as he said he’d never seen water test so good! (He didn’t make the sale, clearly.) Now that we’re back to foster care, we’ve even had it recently tested and it still comes back perfect. So you may be wondering, ‘Then WHY are you wanting a filtration system?’

Well, while our water is completely safe, healthy, and has no imperfections per se’; from time to time, it will have a strong ‘mineral-like’ taste to it. So even though it’s still safe to drink when this happens, I’m to the point in my life that I just don’t want to drink (what I consider) bad tasting water.

I LOVE water. It’s my beverage of choice! You will almost always find me with a bottle of ice water in tow, no matter where I go. So not having fresh, delicious water readily available at all times was getting old. The solution = Berkey Water Filtration System!

What Does The Berkey All Filter Out?

Whether you have well water or city water, pollutants and other contaminants can find their ways into drinking water. So not only am I happy to have fresh tasting water at all times now, I’m able to rest easy knowing that if any of the following would happen to contaminate our water supply, the Berkey can remove them. This includes:

  • Arsenic
  • BPA
  • Cadmium
  • Chlorine
  • Chromium 6
  • Fluoride
  • Glyphosate
  • Lead and other Heavy Metals
  • Minerals
  • Nitrites
  • Pesticides
  • Petroleum Contaminants
  • PFAS
  • Pharmaceutical Drugs
  • Trihalomethanes (THMs)
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

Your hydration is important. Every cell in your body relies on water to deliver valuable nutrients, minerals, and chemicals they need to survive and thrive. Needless to say, polluted water isn’t going to help, nor will it leave you feeling your best. The solution? A time-tested water filter you can trust!

Our Imperial Berkey

We currently have ten people in our home. My husband, myself, our six bio kids, one foster son, and my mother-in-law. I was debating between the Imperial (for 6-10 people) and the Crown (8-12+ people) but ultimately decided to try the Imperial Berkey Water Filter to save a little space. If I had to choose again, I’d go bigger. So my advice would be to get one size larger than you think you’ll need.

Set up was a breeze. All the pieces as well as instructions were included in the box. It took just a couple minutes to unbox everything, pre-wash the pieces, prime the Berkey water filters, and set everything up.

Not only does the Berkey Water Filtration System look great, its style is sleek and sophisticated; providing us with fresh tasting water at the push of the nozzle.

We just set up our system. How did you get your water to taste better? I took water from before the softener (as instructed by the company) and it has that strong mineral taste. I don’t much mind it but the kids still won’t drink it. They told me to try shocking the well or adding a couple drops of chlorine to the water before it’s filtered since it gets filtered out. Our water is free of pathogens and agricultural waste. We test it every year. Thanks in advance!

Hi Erika,

How many filters did you put in? We didn't do anything expect put in two filters and the mineral taste is gone for us. ***We are taking water right from the kitchen faucet so it's after the softener as we've always drank our 'soft' (that's still quite hard) water. Ours is also tested and considered good, we just didn't like the mineral taste. But our Berkey has taken that taste away.

I have never heard of this before. I find it interesting even though I have city water. I will recommend this to my friend with well water. Thanks!

I am the same way, I love water! I don't have the luxury of drinking well water (although someday I hope to!) so I have one of those water machines. It is kind of a pain to have to turn in my empty 5 gallon bottles and get new. We usually go through 2 5 gallons in roughly 4 days. So having of these would definitely be a lifesaver!
