9 Smart Ways to Use Rope Baskets for Storage & Organization

We recently took half of our week off of school to get re-organized. Have you ever taken a few days just to focus hard on organizing and cleaning?

It was something that I’d been needing to do since Christmas thanks to the influx of toys and books, not to mention our busier schedules around that time which meant things just didn’t get put away and cleaned like they should. It adds up over time!

I had also never felt like I had gotten 100% organized since moving back to WV in 2022. To be honest, I’m still not 100% done with organizing the whole house, but we’re getting there.

It’s always a lot of work to get the house organized, but I feel so much better once it’s done. I had figured out some great systems for toy organization when we lived at our last home in WV and I utilized a lot of those same things this time around.

Of course, any time you are in a new space you have to make adjustments to how you organize. I recently got a few rope storage baskets from Parker Baby Co. and have loved them so much for their strength and the many ways I’ve been able to use them.

Today I wanted to share with you a few ideas of how you can use rope storage baskets while organizing your house. I hope you’ll be inspired as you work on your own organizing!

Parker Baby Co. Rope Storage Baskets

First, a quick word about these rope storage baskets from Parker Baby Co. that were sent to me. They are heavy-duty. Like really heavy-duty! My sons Matthias (18 months) and Killian (almost 4 years old) have both sat inside of them (individually) and had an older sibling swing them around. Over and over again but you’d never know it.

I love that they are so strong so I don’t have to worry about the weight of the items I’m putting into them. I also love the way they look. They are not an eyesore at all!

Shoe Storage

With 7 kids, as you can imagine, we have a lot of shoes. There are play shoes, summer shoes, church shoes, etc. for every single kid.

One of the bedrooms in our home sleep 3 of our boys (the 3 middle boys) and I’ve found that these rope storage baskets are great for holding shoes. They can hold a LOT of pairs and it’s easy to pull the basket out of the closet when we need to sort through it.

We have a coat closet downstairs where each of the children is supposed to keep one pair of shoes but they quickly multiply. So, about once a week, I just bring the basket down and it makes it easy to toss all the extras into it and take them back upstairs.

If you’re on the hunt for shoe storage solutions I have a whole post about the various ways we have organized shoes over the years.

Nursery Storage

These baskets were designed with nursery storage in mind. They are a perfect spot to store loose diapers and wipes, baby toys, stuffed animals, swaddled, even as a drop-spot for your baby carriers. The possibilities in the nursery are almost endless!

Toy Storage

I have never been shy about my love for Ikea’s Kallax shelf units. In fact, I talk about them extensively in my toy organization post. I own multiple Kallax shelves in various sizes. They are so versatile!

The one thing that I haven’t been loving as much lately are the DRÖNA storage boxes I got to go in them. They do not hold up well if you are putting heavy items in them.

Another issue is when my kids shove oddly-shaped items into the bins. It messes them up; structurally, many of them aren’t as good anymore.

I needed stronger bins for our wooden train pieces and magnetic building blocks. These rope baskets work great! They are also easier for items I am carrying to the floor for my kids thanks to the handles.

One thing you may notice from the photo below is that these baskets totally fill up the space and have to be slightly scrunched in there. They also hang out over the front a little bit.

If you want a more polished look and you’ll be putting these in a Kallax unit or something similar, you might want to consider the smaller-size rope baskets from Parker Baby Co.

Stairs Catch-All

How many of you who live in a 2-story house end up piling things at the bottom of the steps that need to go upstairs? I love keeping a basket like this at the bottom of the stairs as a catch-all for it and then I can take it all up together at the end of the day.

Board Game Storage

A few years ago a friend turned me onto putting our board games in reusable zippered storage bags instead of keeping them in the boxes, which are often worn and falling apart.

At this point about 1/2 of our board games are in bags and it’s been great for saving space and keeping all of the pieces together. It also looks neater because work, broken boxes are an eyesore.

These rope baskets are a great place to store those bags. It would also work for board games still in their boxes too though, if they had well-fitted lids.

Blanket Storage

I’m a big fan of throw blankets so we have quite a few in our house. I’ve even started rotating them based on the season because, yes, I’m the kind of person who still uses a throw blanket on cooler spring/summer evenings.

Some of my kids are too young to fold blankets well, so having a basket they can just toss them into keeps things looking organized and also keeps the blankets off of the floor.

I keep a basket for blankets on our main level and also in our finished basement.

Shuttling Items to/from a Vehicle

It feels like we are always taking so many things to and from our van. In the wintertime, we don’t bother putting coats on the kids as they head to the van because it’s just outside our door and they’d have to take them right back off before getting into car seat.

However, I like to bring them with us because you just never know what might happen. If we were stranded along the side of the road my kids would need their coats.

By putting them all into one of these baskets, it’s easy to move them in and out of the van. Plus we can put things like hats and gloves in there too.

Homeschooling Morning Basket

If you’re a homeschooling family, do you have a morning basket? If so, this rope basket is a great choice for that!

Pool Day/Beach Day Supplies

I take my kids swimming at a friend’s home usually once a week in the summer. A basket like this is perfect to duck beach towels and extra sunscreen into!

How would YOU use one of these baskets? You can buy a few for yourself here.
