I’ve never been shy about telling people that winter is my least favorite season…at least as far as temperature is concerned. I love the beauty of snow and the excitement it brings my children when they are playing in the snow. I love the Christmas season and everything that comes with it…except for the cold. I hate the cold!
However, about two years ago I decided I was going to embrace winter. Despite the cold, I decided I would focus on things about the season that I DO love and incorporate traditions into winter so I would love it like all of the other seasons.

One thing I’ve done is embrace hot drinks during this time of the year. I purchased new mugs this year to make a hot chocolate bar for the kids and I make sure that I always have plenty of tea, coffee, and other drinks that can be served warm ready to go.
As we prepare for a week-long cold snap here in WV, including some upcoming snow, it seemed like the perfect time to share a little round-up of my favorite, must-have items to stay warm and cozy in the winter.
Warm and Cozy Winter Must-Haves
Here are my must-have, favorite winter products for the whole family!
For my kids, I love Stonz boots! They carry them up to size 2 youth (for reference, my 9-year-old daughter still fits into their boots but not my 11-year-old son). They are super easy to put on and adjust (3 different adjustments for a tight fit that keeps snow out), plus they keep their toes warm even when it’s as cold as -58ºF/ -50ºC! They are also windproof and water resistant.
I love being cozy when I am lounging around the house in the winter! I do love a great pair of sweatpants but I have found that I find sweatpants with tight ankle cuffs uncomfortable to sleep in - anyone else?
I also love to sleep under a few heavy blankets at night. What that means is that I need loungewear and pajamas that are still long-sleeved and pants but lightweight enough that I don't overheat under all the blankets.
Insert Kyte Baby. I discovered their adult loungewear sets last year and LOVE them! Truly, I don't think I will ever buy any other winter pajamas! They are so extremely soft and comfortable, with ankles that still cuff but not tightly, and offer just the perfect amount of warmth without overheating under the covers. The pants even have pockets!
Trust me when I tell you that you'll never regret a set of Kyte Baby loungewear! It comes in a variety of great color options too!
Every Sunday our family gets dressed up and heads out the door by 9:45 for church. In the winter, some mornings can be so cold. I like to dress my little ones in nice clothing for Sunday but thin button-down shirts just don't cut it.
That's why I love, love, LOVE the knit sweater sets from Feltman Brothers, like this chunky knit set. Mathias has it in blue and wears it all the time. It's super warm and cozy for relaxing at home, but also still dressy enough to wear to church or a trip into town.
Another great option from Feltman Brothers, especially if you have a younger baby, is this one-piece ribbed set with a matching bonnet. It's available in sizes up to 9 months. It's also 100% cotton.
All mittens are not created equal. Copper Mill mittens are top-of-the-line when it comes to mittens. I love them because they are made well enough that I can buy one pair for my oldest and then pass them down to each kid because they LAST. Not only that, my kids say they are super warm and really comfortable.
These gloves are made from Goat Leather, 3M Thinsulate™ interior, Hipora waterproof insert & performance material. They come with a handy clip to help keep them together when not in use too.
My girls love to wear dresses so I always make sure to purchase them a few new long-sleeve cotton dresses each winter They pair them with a sweater and a pair of warm leggings for a comfy winter outfit that still feels feminine and pretty to them.
My daughter has this dress from City Threads and loves it! They also have warm 2-piece sets for boys and girls.
Here's the deal - not all blankets or quilts are created equal. A few years ago I discovered muslin and I've never wanted to go back to other blankets or quilts since. We have a handful of muslin quilts in various sizes that I keep in our living room and family room that our family uses throughout the winter months to stay cold. We also still have a few "other" blankets that are never claimed until all of the muslin ones are.
Little Unicorn offers my absolute favorite prints for muslin quilts. There are so many great ones to choose from so I've slowly been adding to my collection. Now I can change them out by the season. I also get them in various sizes so there's the perfect size for every member of our family.
Trust me, if you don't own a Little Unicorn quilt yet, it's worth it! I'm not sure how long the sale will last, but currently there is a Christmas quilt available on the website that's 60% off!
Candles are a must-have for me when I'm looking for things to keep our family warm and cozy! There is something about the flicker of the flame and the scents of winter that just warm your heart.
My oldest daughter has grown to love candles so much that she is often lighting them in our home before I even I get around to it. We tend to burn candles at least a few times throughout the week during the winter months for a little pick-me-up.
We're all loving the fantastic scents of these candles from Fernweh Editions. They are made with a soy wax blend for a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable burn.
Allbirds is the place to shop for wool shoes. Wool is a great fabric for winter - it's super cozy and breathable. My husband has a pair of wool shoes from Allbirds that he wears to work and he has told me that he's gotten SO many compliments when he wears them - more than any other shoe! Everyone wants to know where he got them.
When I took my daughter to a recent oral surgeon appointment, I noticed the surgeon was wearing Allbirds too. He told me he has two pairs and it's almost all he wears because they are so comfy.
They have shoes for men and women and even kids.
I have a wool sweater from Allbirds that's my absolute FAVORITE, unfortunately, they don't currently have any for sale, but I hope they rerelease them soon!
Winter is the time for homemade stews, chili, and warm sourdough bread and you can make them all and so much more in this heirloom-quality dutch oven from Smithey Ironware.
I have this Dutch oven and not only does the delicious food it helps me to create warm my heart, the beauty of this ironware does as well! I smile every time I look at this expertly crafted Dutch oven!
Every kitchen needs one of these for warm and cozy winter meals!
I absolutely love my tea maker from Adagio! It makes perfect tea in just minutes! You can brew loose-leaf or bagged tea with it (or even use it just to heat your water). There are pre-programmed settings to make sure your tea brews for just the right amount of time.
I use this every single day during the winter months, sometimes multiple times in a day.
This tea maker is so popular in fact that it's actually sold out currently but should be back in stock soon. Make sure you check out their loose leaf tea options too!
For years blue jeans were my winter pants staple. That's all I had ever known. I also knew my legs were constantly cold and jeans just weren't all that comfortable really.
Now that I'm a stay-at-home, homeschooling, busy mom of 7, I want pants that are comfortable while still looking like I've gotten dressed for the day and I'm not just wearing pajamas or sweats every day.
That's why I love Fishers Finery. They have great-looking pants that are still comfortable ones that I can wear around the house. They also have skirts too!

Morgantown here we are at 16 and snow is spitting and flying in the air. We have about 2 inches, bad roads (retired so I don't have to go out)and so cold. You have lots of good ideals, on my 3rd cup of tea and I put on a heavy vest feels good on shoulders and back. Don't have a tea maker but I have a electric kettle and all the those bubbles makes the water, tea taste better.
You have a lot of good ideals here.
