Our family recently returned home from a road trip to Florida. This was a very last minute, spur of the moment trip for us. We didn’t have a lot of time to spend there but managed to hit some of our favorite Florida family attractions: LEGOLAND, Disney, SeaWorld, and Discovery Cove. By the time we had visited all 4 locations we were exhausted, adults and kids alike. We tried to cram too much in at once and it was showing. We were at the point where this was feeling much less of a vacation and more like a really bad idea. (Have you ever done this?) My kids were fussy and my husband and I were both feeling
a little on edge. We had planned the last 2 days of our trip to be spent at Tuckaway Shores Beach Resort in Indialantic but as we were packing up to leave Orlando my husband and I discussed just cutting our losses and heading for home. The only reason we went through with it was because I’d agreed to review the resort and it’s important to me to keep my word. As we drove the 90 minutes to the resort, I couldn’t help but worry we were in for a miserable 48 hours with four cranky kids.
We pulled into town a few hours before check-in so we drove around for a bit to check out the area. We stopped at a nice gift shop and picked up a few souvenirs and then enjoyed some Cold Stone ice cream, just a short walk from the resort.
As we checked into Tuckaway Shores a delightful woman greeted us at the front desk and told us about the property. She took the time to tell us that it was turtle nesting season and what that meant for our trip (like the need to close the blinds at night so the light from our room would not affect the turtles). We were pretty excited about the possibility of seeing a sea turtle during our stay.
We were given an Oceanfront Suite on the 3rd floor. If you have problems climbing stairs, you’ll want to request a first floor suite since there is no elevator available, but that wasn’t a problem for our family. I enjoyed being on the third floor because it offered a gorgeous view of the beach. Yeah, did I mention that this resort is literally right on the beach?! Our suite had a queen size bed, kitchenette, and a couch which pulled out into a bed. It also had 2 televisions and a DVD player in the living room. Everything we’d need for a week at the beach was provided and, maybe most importantly, everything was very clean!
We settled into our room for a bit and then headed out to check out the beach. The resort has a private beach, which meant it wasn’t crowded at all. In fact, while we were there, we never saw more than 4 other families out there at a time. I’m used to visiting beaches that are just crowded with people and this was a nice change of pace. The resort has a selection of chairs, beach towels, and beach toys available for use at no charge. For a family like ours driving in from out of town with limited trunk space, not having to bring these things with us was a huge help!
The kids had SO much fun at the beach, playing in the water and building with the sand. The ocean water was so warm, we could have stayed in it for hours. It was amazing! I feel like we all literally felt the stress just melt away as we played and rested on that beach. We followed that up with some time in the pool (even warmer than the ocean and just the perfect swimming temperature).
Tired and worn out from swimming, my husband ran down the road to the grocery store while I got all of the kids ready for bed. It was so nice to be able to fix them a meal in our room and then we all relaxed on the couch watching a movie together before bed.
That day at Tuckaway Shores was JUST what we needed. My husband and I went to bed that night talking about how great of a day it had been and how relaxed we felt.
We spent the next day doing much of the same. Time at the beach, time at the pool. It rained and we didn’t even care! We relaxed and quite possibly for the first time on during our trip, there were smiles all around. No one was crying or whining. We were all just having a marvelous, peaceful, relaxing time as a family.
Some of the other amenities at Tuckaway Shores include:
- The “Big Green Egg” which is a state of the art smoker/griller is open for anyone to use. Wood chips, tools, even the BBQ sauce is included with your stay. Just bring your favorite food to cook!
- Beach showers
- Fish cleaning station
- Cabana room – A lounge area with large wall mount TV and pool baths. For a nominal fee, the Cabana room can be reserved for private functions, parties, reunions or business meetings.
- Free WiFi with great reception, unlike other places I’ve stayed where the Internet was extremely slow.
- Heated pool, with toys for the kids
We pulled up to Tuckaway Shores fearing that we should have just headed home but 48 hours later we left Tuckaway Shores refreshed, re-energized, and extremely sad to be heading home. We had an AMAZING time at this resort. I can’t tell you enough how much we liked it there. It’s the perfect beach escape for families. Thanks to the low room rates, kitchenette and grill station, and amazing beach and pool, we could have easily stayed at Tuckaway Shores Resort for a week’s and had a blast at a very affordable price.
My husband and I were both thrilled with Tuckaway Shores and our kids were as well. It’s close enough to still make a trip out to Orlando or Cape Canaveral, while being a much more relaxing vacation. It was the best beach trip we have EVER had. Trust me, Tuckaway Shores is just the escape your family is needing!
