Every year I feel like it’s a struggle to come up with the perfect gift for my husband. But this year, I know he’s going to be thrilled when he unwraps his big gift. It’s the perfect blend of something he needs, yet also something he will love and enjoy too. I’m gifting him a new Intel laptop from Walmart, the HP Omen Gaming Laptop, Intel® Core™ i7!
I knew my husband needed something on the more powerful side of laptops because video editing is something he loves to do. Sometimes its for fun, sometimes its for a church production or the blog, and sometimes its to make a little side money. He isn’t a professional by any means, but it’s something he has enjoyed doing since high school. Now, I don’t know the ins and outs of computer terms and lingo, but I do know that any computer Orin uses for video editing needs a large hard drive, a fair amount of RAM, and a good processor. Orin uses Adobe software and, from what I understand, it’ll use all the power it can get. The more powerful the computer, the faster the videos “render”, which translates to him being able to get the video done quicker.
To a slightly lesser extent, he is also a gamer. While not a daily occurrence, he does love to sit down at the end of the day and play some games occasionally. He has the current gaming consoles but, according to him, certain aspects of playing games on PC are just better. From what I understand, you can modify computer games and that seems to be why he prefers them.
It’s been over 3 years since he’d gotten a new laptop. Now that might not seem like a long time to you (and personally not me either, I’m a creature of habit who hates to switch all of my info over to a new laptop) but when it comes to creating videos, that’s a really long time. Technology is still changing so rapidly! Not only that, but some of the videos he has been creating lately have been so detailed that it would take hours upon hours for them to render. He never really complained, but I know he’s been longing for a more powerful processor.
Confession — I blog for a living, yes, but when it comes to technology and laptops, I don’t know very much. One of the things I do know is that I am a big fan of Intel processors, as that is what is in my current HP laptop, . My Intel®-powered HP has been as reliable and fast as I could ever hope for and hasn’t given my a single problem. (Except for the time Zellene spilled a Slurpee all over it and nearly fried it.) Beyond the processor, I wasn’t really sure what kind of specs he needed in a laptop so that it would be more powerful than his current one, so I had to do a little bit of detective work. I found the original order sheet for his current laptop that listed all of the specs so I could compare it to the HP Omen.
His current laptop runs an Intel® i7-4710HQ processor, 8GB of RAM, a 3GB graphics card, 1TB hard drive, and a 15.6″ IPS high definition screen.
In comparison, the HP Omen features the newer and better Intel® Core i7-7700HQ quad-core processor, 4 additional GBs of RAM for a total of 12GB, a 4GB graphics card, 1TB hard drive, and a 15.6″ IPS high definition display.
So, the HP Omen 15-ax250wm has improved performance and capacity on three of the five specs I compared. Storage capacity and screen resolution were the only specifications that remained the same in comparison with his current laptop. All of these combine to ensure that he can render his video work faster and play his games on higher graphic settings.
The HP Omen 15-ax250wm is the first gaming laptop available at Walmart! It features a Dragon Red backlit keyboard with highlighted WASD and 26-key rollover anti-ghosting, which helps ensure every keystroke is detected. With the HP Omen, you can level up to the latest hardware and make upgrading a breeze with single panel access to internals. An optional Thunderbolt 3-certified USB-C™ port, 3 USB Type A ports, and a HDMI port lets you easily adapt to all the action. It comes equipped with a 4-cell battery with up to 10 hours, 30 minutes of battery life, an HP Wide Vision HD Webcam, Bluetooth and Windows 10.
He didn’t ask for a laptop for Christmas because I’m sure he thought it would be too much right now, but Walmart makes them so affordable! Not only is this laptop better than his last, it’s substantially cheaper too! I can’t WAIT to see how excited he is to unwrap it this Christmas morning!
