*I was provided the Disney Tangled-themed toys at no cost to facilitate a review. All opinions are my own.*
We love Disney Princesses in our house – especially my 3 year old daughter. She spends hours playing with her dolls and dressing up in princess costumes. We also watch our share of princess shows, and Tangled recently became a favorite choice. I love how Rapunzel is portrayed as an independent female, while still keeping the charm of Disney stories. Our family was very excited to check out a few new Tangled toys. The toys capture Rapunzel’s personality and let your child be part of her world, using inspiration from the Disney Channel series. My daughter loves any chance to role-play, and these toys provide a great opportunity to expand her imagination using her favorite characters.
Rapunzel Glow N’ Style Toddler Doll
This newest Rapunzel toddler doll comes with unique features. Glow N’ Style Rapunzel can sing “I See the Light” and can say sixteen different phrases from the movie. My daughter loves interacting with her toys and the addition of voice to this doll was a big hit with her. Her batteries are pre-installed, so just press the button and hear her talk and sing! She also comes with lots of fun accessories for her long, silky blonde hair. Sparkly clips that Velcro on, a Pascal clip, and a royal hairbrush are all part of her collection!
Rapunzel’s hair is the best part of this doll. She has a beautiful braid waiting to be adorned with the included sparkly flowers and birds. But, there is more to her hair than meets the eye. Woven through the braid is a string of six glowing orange lights; a real wow factor! Press the button to make her sing and the lights illuminate and blink! My daughter was in awe, and continues to love pressing the button to see the glow. We have several Disney Princess toddler dolls, but this one is by far the most fun for interactive play. Any Rapunzel/Tangled fan would adore this doll! You can find the Glow N’ Style Rapunzel Toddler Doll at Amazon.com and other retailer.
Archery Fun with Rapunzel’s Bow and Arrow Set
In addition to dolls, I like to have toys that provide active play as well. My children love to try any new sport, so why not archery?! The Disney Tangled Rapunzel’s Bow and Arrow set is a perfect beginner set with a bow, quiver, and 3 arrows.
All made of study plastic, it is durable, yet safe for indoor or outdoor play. The arrows have a suction cup end and can stick to many hard surfaces. The bow has a guide for the arrow to help children line it up correctly. The set claims the arrows can fly up to 10ft, but we were seeing a bit less than that. Adults or older children with perfect aim and strength could just about make it 10ft, but not the typical child user. That didn’t seem to bother my kiddos, though, as they easily figured out how to load and shoot the arrows, and got them where they wanted.
We find lots of ways to play with the set. My daughter loves putting the quiver on her back and marching around looking for “trouble.” We have accuracy contests using a target we have from another bow and arrow set. We also set up cardboard blocks and attempt to knock them over in different configurations. The set provides many different ways to have fun. As a parent, I love the hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills practice. The Tangled Rapunzel’s Bow and Arrow set retails for $19.99 and is suggested for ages 3+.
Capturing Your Thoughts with Rapunzel’s Secret Journal
Up next is the Rapunzel’s Secret Journal, an adorable 12 piece set that includes the journal (with a secret drawer!), black light, invisible ink pen, washable ink marker, plastic stencil, journal paper, sticker sheets, Maximus tail hair charm, and a key to the journal. The journal is a large, plastic box; sturdy, but not heavy for little ones. The Maximus tail charm clips to the upper left corner and is a very cute detail. The journal pops open with the gold plastic key to reveal a work space for composing secret messages or any creation your little one dreams up.
The invisible ink was a hard concept for my 3 year old to grasp, but my older son (6) really thought it was neat. Once you write out your secrets, the black light (disguised as a pot of purple jewels) shines over it to reveal the message. The black light comes with a battery pre-installed – always appreciated! Make sure to press hard with the invisible ink pen so the message is clear. A very tight cap covers the invisible ink pen. The cap keeps the marker from drying out, but is hard to remove. I found older siblings are good for helping open it!
Creating fun messages
We enjoy creating with markers, stickers and stencils, so this set is a big hit in our house. The paper fits into the two upper slots to prevent sliding while creating. I wish it came with more paper (only 3 sheets included), but it was not hard to cut plain paper to the size that fits in the writing space. The stencil is especially fun – well made and heavy enough that it sits in place during tracing. My daughter loves creating shapes she otherwise could not draw by hand. The washable marker has a thin tip and does easily wash off little hands.
Storage for Secrets
All the included pieces fit nicely in the secret compartment, making it easy to keep everything together. I recommend keeping the key in the lock slot to avoid misplacing, as the journal seems to latch shut each time. You can also attach it to the journal using it’s ring. The set is great for children 3+ and is a nice introduction to journals. Since I’m have an engineering background, I also like the invisible ink and black light aspect that highlight some science basics. Rapunzel’s Secret Journal retails for $14.99.
