As a mom to six kids, I’ve found there are some toys that truly have stood the test of time. Toys that, while they may or may not be a big investment up front, are the ones that my kids come back to time and time again. While a couple of them are the type of toy that you do need to replace as they are more ‘disposable’, the rest are the type that you purchase once, take good care of, and use for generations.
Top 7 Toys That Stand The Test Of Time
- Wooden Blocks: Back when I did daycare, I invested in a large wooden block set. And, 20 years later, I STILL have it! It’s unbelievable how popular these blocks are. The kids build with them, create roads and paths, and make believe all kinds of things.
- Magnetic Tiles: While Magnet Tiles are new(er) to the scene, they’ve been around for long enough to know that they are worth the investment. Be sure to read my Connetix Review below to learn why I think they’re worth the price.
- Play Dough: This one is pretty self explanatory and has been around forever. Over all my years of babysitting as a teen, owning my in-home daycare, foster care, and parenting my own children; play dough has always been a hit. It’s also been invaluable to buy me time when homeschooling (bigger kids) with a toddler in the house. Albeit, it is one of the messier options, sometimes it’s just worth it.
- Lincoln Logs: Another building toy of sorts, a basket of Lincoln Logs is a winner. It makes for a great way to pass the time, be creative, and build with hands.
- Wooden Train Set: While I didn’t grow up with this toy, I’ve come to see how valuable a wooden train set is. (No train table needed!) My husband’s aunt had one toy at her home for visitors and grandkids… A basket of wooden train tracks, accessories, and trains. When we would visit, the kids would spend hours quietly! playing. It was amazing to see what such a simple toy could offer in that setting.
- Koosh, Bouncy Ball, Or Other Toy Ball: When my husband and I first got married, we somehow ended up with a Koosh ball. We made it a habit to pass it back and forth in the evenings as we chatted about our day. It was just a fun thing to do with our hands as we conversed. And when our older kids were younger, we started a ‘bouncy ball jar’. It consisted of a variety of rubber bouncing balls and it entertained the kids daily as they emptied it and chased balls all over the house. Truly, a ball of any sort, is just a good old fashion toy that you’ll never regret having around.
Connetix Magnet Tiles Review – Geared For Ages 3 And Up
I’m a huge fan of the Connetix brand and once you see them in person, you’ll quickly see why. For this review, I received the Connetix Tiles 120 Piece Pastel Creative Pack and the first time my husband grabbed the box, he almost dropped it because it was heavier than he expected! These magnet tiles are made well and I can confidently say you won’t find a cheap knock off with Connetix. Geared for ages 3 and up, these magnet tiles are worth the investment.
Connetix 120 Pastel Creative Pack Magnet Tiles Set
One of my favorite reasons why I love Connetix’s Magnet Tiles is because they offer a fun way to spark STEAM learning for kids of all ages. This particular set features a variety of options to let your kid’s imagination fly.:
- large and small squares
- three types of triangles
- door pieces
- window pieces
I also love how these magnet tiles are designed as they are great for playing on a lighted table too. The pastel shades are unique and exclusive to Connetix Tiles. Plus, the unique bevel design allows them to be durable while also creating clearer refractions.
Designed to be a premium set of open ended building pieces, there are infinite possibilities of creations. Kids (and adults) can create something new every single time!
The magnets are strong and these tiles snap nicely together when building. Plus, I love how these tiles are designed to grow with your children as their play and learning develops. This means they are suitable for a wide range of ages and capabilities.
Safe!
You may have seen some things in the news about off brand tiles having issues with the magnets coming out. Thankfully, Connetix has taken steps to insure this won’t happen with their products! All Connetix tiles are sealed and riveted for extra safety. Plus, they are made using non-toxic ABS plastic that is BPA, lead, and phthalate free.
Final Thoughts On My Connetix Magnet Tiles Review
I can confidently say that Connetix Magnet Tiles are a popular toy in our home. I even like to bring my basket of tiles with to homeschool co-op for free time play. They are such an easy, mess-free toy that all kids seem to love. If you’re on the hunt for a high quality magnet tile option, definitely check them out.
