I didn’t always enjoy baby-wearing. When we had our first, I had a cheap $20 carrier from Target and it was the most uncomfortable thing ever. We tried to use it exactly ONE time for about 15 mierable minutes. At that point, ‘I just knew baby wearing wasn’t for me’. HA! How wrong I was!
When I was expecting baby #2, I decided that I should revisit the baby wearing topic but do some due diligence and research this time around. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! We LOVED baby wearing from day one! So whether you’ve tried (and felt like you failed) at wearing your little one or are brand new to the concept; I highly encourage you to do some research. Scour the web and check out ALL the different carrier options. And consider my top 10 reasons for baby wearing as you may find they’ll be beneficial for you too. These days, as a seasoned mom to six and current foster mama to two littles, wearing kiddos is not only second nature; it’s a lifesaver!

My Favorite Reasons To Baby Wear
In no particular order, here are my favorite reasons that I choose to wear our children and foster loves.
- Hands Free Mama: Truthfully, life is just busy. I am often multi-tasking. So when baby is fussy, life is much easier for everyone when I can just strap her on and keep on trucking. Baby is happy and I still have two hands to get other tasks completed.
- Extra Bonding Time: Getting to wear baby means I get more time snuggling, especially while I go about my day. It’s perfect for sneaking in bonding time.
- Counts As Tummy Time: Worried about flat head syndrome and helmets? Did you know that wearing your baby in a carrier counts as tummy time!? Baby wearing is the perfect way to sneak in time where baby is off the back of their head. (I swear this is why not a single one of my kids ever had even a hint of a flat spot!)
- Baby Wearing Brings Sleep Dust: Just kidding…sort of. But when I have a baby or toddler who is over tired and fighting a nap, all I have to do is strap them on my front or back and they are out like a light! It’s like magic.
- Makes Travel Easier: Heading to Disney? Guess what, you can’t bring your stroller in the ride queues. Baby wearing to the rescue! I promise you will be so grateful you brought your carrier to Disney as some lines can get really long. Holding a squirmy baby or toddler for an hour straight when you are confined to a small space sounds like torture. Plus, they get heavy. But no matter where you’re traveling, carriers come in handy. Wearing your child gives your arms a break while keeping your child safe, close, and comfortable.
- Promotes Cognitive And Emotional Development: Being in a carrier allows your baby to see and absorb the world around them. They can also engage with you face to face – and snuggle into you if they want a rest or cuddle.
- Makes Babies Portable: Strollers are big and bulky. They don’t always fit in tight places. Baby-wearing means you can get out and go; making it easy to take baby everywhere with you.
- Helps With Reflux: If you have a colicky baby or a little one that is fighting reflux or digestive problems; wearing them in an upright position can oftentimes relieve discomfort and provide a calming effect.
- It’s Healthy: There are benefits for both mommy and baby when babywearing. For mom, it gently improves posture and core strength. For baby, it can help regulate breathing and body temperature.
- Wearing Your Child Is Calming: Being carried offers a calming reassurance, even for older babies and toddlers. This is especially helpful when tired, teething, unwell, or just feeling upset. And truth be told, sometimes us moms just need the calming effects of having our little one close too.
