Tips On Keeping Kids Entertained During Isolation

1)  Make A Weekly Plan (But Be FLEXIBLE!)

The best part of being home with the kids and now ‘homeschooling’ is you have some freedom with the schedule.  If your kids are early risers, great.  However, if they prefer to be night owls and sleep in, let them!  You now have that flexibility.  No more busses to catch (or miss).  Create a schedule but edit to what works for YOUR family.

2)  Find Creative Things To Do As You Homeschool

We know finding things to do when kids are homeschooling can be a bit intimidating.  Especially if you never had any intentions of homeschooling.  However, this is an excellent opportunity to try out learning in different ways.  Being creative helps develop your child’s sense of curiosity and imagination and, also, certain tasks can advance fine motor skills.

3)  Talk To Your Kids And Build Relationships

During this unprecedented time, set aside a part of your day to just talk to your kids.  Work on building relationships with them that may have gotten pushed to the side during the busy-ness of typical life.  Ask them how they are feeling about their experiences of not being in school. It’s the perfect time to practice using adjectives for emotions.

4)  Encourage Active Kids

Plan a dance party at home.  Take a nature walk and do a scavenger hunt.  Play in the backyard.  Just take some time each day to get moving and active.  It helps brighten moods and is a healthy thing to do!
