The Escape Game Minneapolis Review {We’re BACK Again!}

I am thrilled to partner again for this “The Escape Game Minneapolis Review” (TheEscapeGameMinneapolis.com).  All opinions are my own.

First off, I am so excited to share that we went back (for a THIRD TIME) to The Escape Game Minneapolis.  You can check out my first The Escape Game Mall Of America post to learn more about our very first visit.  My husband and I had such an amazing time at our first game. So much so, that we went back and booked a second game later that same day!  But now, I wanted to share with you again because The Escape Game Minneapolis is also a great place to visit as a family!

What Is An Escape Room

Let me back up.  Just in case you haven’t yet heard of this new phenomenon, I want to tell you what an escape room is first.  The Escape Game is an exciting live 60-minute adventure. You and your team will start by selecting a challenge room theme.  Then, you will have one hour to complete your mission and escape.  Solve clues, riddles, and puzzles to advance until you finally escape {or the time runs out}.  The Escape Game Minneapolis does give you three free clues for when you get stuck, which I love.  And there’s also an unlimited amount of bonus clues you can receive.  But note, two additional minutes for each clue is added onto your end score time.  (So if you escape with 5 minutes left on the timer, your final score will be 7 minutes if you took a 4th clue.  9 minutes if you took a 5th.  And so on.)

Where Is The Escape Game Minneapolis Located?

Conveniently located inside the Mall of America, they are easy to find.  Located on the third floor, you can head over to book your Escape Game Here to secure your game date and time.  Each game can accommodate eight players with the exception of the newest room which is geared for up to seven.

Family Outing At The Escape Game Minneapolis

While the recommended age is 13 and up, younger players are allowed with adult supervision.  So if your family is still younger but you think they’d enjoy a challenge, book a room!  Since we knew that our 10 and 13-year-old kids would LOVE the experience, we headed back down to the Mall of America for a day of fun.

I will say, since we were making this an entire day trip, we did bring all five of our kids.  So our Escape Game consisted of my husband, myself, and our kids ages: 13, 10, 7, 5, and 3.

Pick A Room

TheEscapeGameMinneapolis.com currently offers FIVE room options!  Their newest room, Special Ops, has JUST opened!  The first escape room we visited was Gold Rush.  Our second game that we purchased was The Heist.  This time, for our family visit, we settled on Mission: Mars.

Mission: Mars

Now for the mission!  First, you’re briefed on safety and game rules.  Then, it’s down to business!

What Happens Once In The Room

After your The Escape Game Minneapolis Team Member leaves the room, the timer begins.  It’s your job, as a team, to repair the ship and regain working controls.  While I’m not going to ruin the game for you or give anything away, I will say that there were surprises, twists, and turns.  The entire hour went so fast and the kids were just as into “playing” this game as we were.

Did We Escape?

I’m happy to report that we DID!  However, it was down to the wire.  We escaped with just 37 SECONDS left on the clock!  And, we happily received our claim to victory, our “I Escaped” stickers.

Final Thoughts

I would TOTALLY go as a family again, even with young kids.  The only thing is that our 3.5-year-old didn’t really “get it”.  She got a little restless (hence the carrier).  However, our 5-year-old and the rest of the kids absolutely enjoyed and participated every step of the way.  They were even helpful in solving some of the clues!  So if you have adventurous kiddos, I would totally suggest checking out The Escape Game Minneapolis for a fun and unique family outing.

Tell me, have you ever been to an escape room?  What did you think?  If you haven’t, feel free to ask any questions in the comments and I’ll answer to the best of my ability.

I've seen escape rooms pop up in our area, but haven't been to one yet. A few friends have been with church groups and birthday parties, but I haven't heard from anyone who took their little ones until now! I had been hesitant to go because I thought the kids would be bored or distracting to the ones who were engaged in the activity. This definitely sounds like something my older kids would enjoy though! I love the Mars Misson theme! There is a Harry Potter themed one a few hours away from us that I'd love to take my 8 year old to now. She is super into Harry Potter... but I do wonder how much knowledge of the theme you have to have to be able to solve it. haha!

My family hasn’t done an Escape Room yet even though they are popping up everywhere around us! This one looks amazing! Wonderful family team building exercise!

This game does look like so much fun to do, especially as a family! We have a 9, 5, and 4 year old, so I think that we will definitely have to plan a trip someday soon. :) Thanks for sharing your experience!

This sounds like a fun and interesting family experience. Makes me think it would be a good activity for a family reunion.

When we were there, a couple of groups were playing. So they paired up in groups of 8 and then used their official times to determine the winner (as they both ended up escaping). It would be SO much fun doing with bigger groups!
