The Duluth Grill: Local Food, Tons Of Flavor

July 22, 2018 by Miranda 17 Comments

My family received a complimentary meal at the Duluth Grill to facilitate this post.  However, all opinions are my own.

You made it to Duluth, MN and you’ve checked into your hotel.  The list of attractions you made are waiting to be experienced.  But now you’re hungry!  So if you’re looking for the best food and experience in town, make your way over to the Duluth Grill.

The Duluth Grill: Local Food, Tons Of Flavor

Welcome To The Duluth Grill

Upon pulling up to the Duluth Grill, we were thrilled to see such a welcoming parking lot.  Flowers, plants, benches, and greenery make the entrance and surrounding area very welcoming.

There are four large benches beneath an over-hang that offer some shade and protection from the weather.  They are the perfect place to wait for the rest of your group to show up.  Or, also a nice place for a guest to wait as their ride pulls up.  But they truly add a flair of style, comfort, and welcoming ambiance to the exterior of the entrance.

And one last thing to mention before heading in the doors is that they also have a basket of sidewalk chalk available for visitors to draw a picture or leave a note about their visit!

Head On Inside To A Welcoming Environment

You know that great feeling you have when you enter grandma and grandpa’s house?  Well, that’s exactly what it feels like to walk into the Duluth Grill.  You just feel right at home!  And within seconds of walking through the door, we were pleasantly greeted.  As our waitress went to prepare for our visit, we were asked by four other staff members if we’d been helped!  Talk about service!

And when I was speaking to the manager, I mentioned how quick and friendly the staff was to everyone who walked through the door.  He told me that “the door opens for a reason.  In training, they emphasize that to their workers as well as how important good service is.”  So know that if you visit the Duluth Grill, they will truly appreciate you and strive to make your visit great!

The decor is comfortable and welcoming.  With a variety of seating options including chairs, booths, and even stools, they have room to seat quite a crowd.  And with the seating strategically divided into sections, it breaks the room up and allows for a more intimate feel.

Within about three minutes of entering the front doors, we were placed at our table and drinks were on the way.

The kids loved that we were seated near the well-kept and colorful fish tank.  And a waitress also brought out crayons and an activity paper to help keep the children occupied while we decided on what to oder.

So Many Great Menu Choices

As we browsed the menu, it was nice to see they really cater to a variety of needs.  Their full, all-day menu includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, tea, dessert, and everything in between!  The hard working staff strives to provide an extensive list of options including allergy friendly and gluten free choices.

While the menu is switched up 3 to 4 times per year, you’ll always know to expect amazing food.  But I love the pages in the menu that actually list where ingredients are from!  Including the city!  So not only do they claim to be local, the Duluth Grill proves it!  And they even share the background history and evolution of their establishment.

The Food

Service and environment are both huge aspects when choosing where to eat.  But no matter what, if the food doesn’t deliver, people won’t be back.  So I’m thrilled to say that every single item we tasted at the Duluth Grill met and exceeded our expectations!  Impeccably presented, they definitely take pride in what they serve.  So without further ado, on to the food!

Onion Rings Appetizer

We started by sharing an appetizer of onion rings.  And they were amazing!  Crispy, crunchy, and the perfect flavor.  While the onions were whole inside, they bit through easily.  Everyone loved these.  And I have to share how fast they brought our app out too.  It was a very quick turn-around from the time we ordered to when it arrived at our table.

Kids Meals – Served With Choice Of Fresh Fruit Or Fries

While our youngest son went with the fries, Lucy has never been big on them.  So she went with the fresh fruit.  Served up on an adorable little platter, it was perfect!  All the fruit was fresh and juicy.  And I really liked how they included a variety of different fruits.

For the main courses, the kids went in a variety of directions to suite their tastes.  Since breakfast is served all day, Alex took that route.  While the other two choose lunch/supper options.

So, to pair with her fresh fruit above, Lucy went with her all-time favorite: “Noodles”!   While she’s been disappointed to be served “boxed” noodles at some restaurants, she was thrilled to see her fav of homemade mac and cheese set before her.  It was creamy and very good.  I may have snuck a bite to be able to attest to this fact…..

Alex chose the Children’s Griddle Combo.  While you had several different options for the two items, he settled on the French Toast and Sausage Patty.  As he was eating, he said it was the best breakfast he’d ever had.

The Duluth Grill: Local Food, Tons Of Flavor

Our last meal off the kid’s menu was Sam’s Cheeseburger and Fries.  The generous helping of fries paired well with his burger and he said his meal tasted great too.

All Day Breakfast

While Hannah struggled to settle on just one entree’, she kept being drawn back to the breakfast options.  There were a few in that section that had her jumping around right up till order time.  But she ended up choosing the Cinnamon Roll French Toast.  And yes, it tastes just as good as it sounds!  She choose to have it dressed with both powdered sugar and whipped cream.  And they served it up with either maple syrup or blueberry syrup toppings.

Lunch & Supper Entrees’

Jack and I both decided to go with the Cheddar Burger Meal.  Guests are able to choose one side from about 6-8 options.  Since I’ve been trying to make healthier choices when eating, I went with the Fresh Organic Garden Salad.  The variety of greens were topped with freshly grated carrots, beets, cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes.  It was amazing!

The Duluth Grill: Local Food, Tons Of Flavor

The burger itself is extremely filling.  Actually, there’s two burgers!  It’s layered with delicious gooey cheese and pickles.  And Jack thoroughly enjoyed his House Cut Dill Seasoned Fries as well.

And finally, Mike is always the most adventurous of the bunch.  He loves to experience new foods.  So he set his sights on the Curry Bowl.  This Curry Bowl came with marinated steak, cilantro lime wild rice, sautéed onions, wild mushrooms, roasted red peppers, broccoli, and green curry sauce.  It was topped with cilantro, scallions, and fresh lime.  But check it out because this picture is worth 1,000 words!

Need A Sweet Treat To Top Off The Perfect Meal?

The Duluth Grill also has quite the variety of dessert options too!  Pies, cakes, cookies, and more.  You’re sure to find the perfect thing to hit your sweet spot.  I have to say that these cupcakes were really calling my name.

The Macaron options were also really eye-catching.  Check out how pretty they look!

But since we were all pretty full from our amazing meal, we decided to all share one dessert instead.  So we settled on the Midnight Delight.  This house-made brownie dessert features vanilla ice cream, homemade whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and powdered sugar.  Rich and sweet, it was the perfect blend of chocolate flavors.

Final Thoughts

It was so great to eat at an establishment that creates most of their foods in house.  This includes things such as their own fermenting even!

And being able to customize your meal is a huge plus for me.  At the Duluth Grill, that means that everything can be made to order!  Guests can add or skip any ingredients or toppings that they prefer.

Overall, we had an amazing experience.   Service was quick, friendly, and good.  Food was spectacular.  The flavors were perfect.  So if you haven’t made your way over to the Duluth Grill yet, make today the day!

The Duluth Grill: Local Food, Tons Of Flavor

Also, if you live in the area, another thing to note is that they cater too.  From weddings and birthdays to events and university dinners, they can create the perfect meal for any event you are hosting.

The Duluth Grill is open daily from 7am to 9pm.  You can visit their Website or Facebook page to learn more and don’t forget to visit them for a meal or dessert soon.

And if you’re looking for a place to stay with the family when you’re in town, check out my Edgewater Hotel & Water Park Review too.
