I love chocolate. It doesn’t matter if it’s chocolate pancakes, chocolate chip banana bread, caramel brownie cheesecake, chocolate chip zucchini cupcakes, no bake peanut butter chocolate oatmeal bars, or salted caramel billionaire bars; if there’s chocolate involved, you’ll find me tasting it!

But when it comes to cookies, there’s nothing better than a classic chocolate chip cookie recipe that practically melts in your mouth.

Notes

  • Chocolate: You can substitute out all chocolate chips or all chocolate chunks instead of the combination. Another option would be chopped chocolate. You can also play around with the flavors of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and semi-sweet.
  • Butter: While this recipe calls for salted butter, you can substitute unsalted butter in its place.
  • White Sugar: For those who are trying to find slightly healthier alternatives, the granulated sugar can be exchanged out and organic cane sugar used in place.
  • Brown Sugar: Make sure you pack the brown sugar tightly into your measuring cup. When dumped, it should be tight enough that it keeps it shape in the bowl until you mix.
  • Salt: While I exclusively only purchase sea salt in my home, you can use iodized table salt if that's all you have on hand. However, I highly suggest you pick up some high quality sea salt because the flavor it delivers is truly the best.

The Biggest Mistake Most People Make With Cookies

When baking cookies, the biggest and most common mistake many people make is OVER BAKING! It’s super important that you do NOT over bake your cookie dough if you want a soft, chewy, and delicious cookie.

As your cookies bake, keep watch and remove them from the oven when the edges are just starting to turn brown. The centers will still look slightly undercooked at this point. Then, leave them on the hot cookie sheet for an additional 5 minutes as they will finish baking during that time!

Convection Oven Baking

I’ve found that when I use the convection bake setting, the oven tends to bake hotter and quicker. So if you have a convection oven or convection oven setting, be sure to drop your oven temp by 25 degrees. (So for this recipe, instead of baking at 375 degrees, you’d drop it to convection bake 350 degrees.)
