Toddler Hair Care Solutions with the Pretty and Posh Vanity from Step2 {+Giveaway!}

My daughter loves to keep her hair long, but is not happy when it comes to brushing or styling.  Summertime has brought additional challenges, with humidity and chlorine in the mix.   The knots abound, and it is a nightly battle to keep it neat.  As the summer progresses, we have come up with several strategies to ease the process.  We call it our 4 D’s of toddler hair care: Detangling, Decoration, Dolls, and Dedicated Space.

Detangling

We started using a shampoo+conditioner and it has made a huge difference.  After bath, comb outs are much smoother (literally!)  We also have a spray-on conditioner for damp or dry hair that we use in the morning on bad cases of bed head.

Decoration

On the styling end, we don’t get much fancier than a braid or ponytail.  Even those, however, cause discomfort and tears.   We found that focusing on the end product was helpful.  I took my daughter shopping for fun hair accessories.  She loves to choose a new bow or barrette to finalize her hairdo, and we usually have a more cooperative client.

Dolls

My husband came up with this one!   Ellie prefers Daddy for hair brushing.  One night that was particularly bad, he grabbed one of her dolls and a play brush.  While he was working on her many kinks, Elllie was happily styling a stuffed lion and then a few Barbie dolls.
