This post is sponsored by Step2.  I was provided a Step2 Pretty and Posh Vanity with Stool at no cost to facilitate this post.

My daughter loves to keep her hair long, but is not happy when it comes to brushing or styling.  Summertime has brought additional challenges, with humidity and chlorine in the mix.   The knots abound, and it is a nightly battle to keep it neat.  As the summer progresses, we have come up with several strategies to ease the process.  We call it our 4 D’s of toddler hair care: Detangling, Decoration, Dolls, and Dedicated Space.

Detangling

We started using a shampoo+conditioner and it has made a huge difference.  After bath, comb outs are much smoother (literally!)  We also have a spray-on conditioner for damp or dry hair that we use in the morning on bad cases of bed head.

Decoration

On the styling end, we don’t get much fancier than a braid or ponytail.  Even those, however, cause discomfort and tears.   We found that focusing on the end product was helpful.  I took my daughter shopping for fun hair accessories.  She loves to choose a new bow or barrette to finalize her hairdo, and we usually have a more cooperative client.

Dolls

My husband came up with this one!   Ellie prefers Daddy for hair brushing.  One night that was particularly bad, he grabbed one of her dolls and a play brush.  While he was working on her many kinks, Elllie was happily styling a stuffed lion and then a few Barbie dolls.

Dedicated Space – The Step2 Pretty and Posh Vanity!

Toddlers generally like consistency.  Defining a space that is for beautifying Ellie’s hair has worked wonders.  Our solution is the new Step2 Pretty and Posh Vanity with stool and accessories!   Whenever we need to brush or style, she happily sits down on the perfectly sized plastic stool in front of the bright purple vanity.  Admiring herself in the large, lighted mirror, her knotty worries slip away.  The set comes with a brush, comb, and handheld mirror for beauty shop role play.  They easily tuck away in the small drawer when she is done playing.  The adorable stickers add bright colors and beauty shop finds like nail polish and makeup.  There are also several spaces for adding your own brushes, lip gloss, and nail polish.

Step2 Pretty and Posh Vanity

Recommended for ages 3 and up, the vanity lives up to the Step2 quality with its sturdy plastic body and stickers that hold up against toddler wear and tear.  The mirror is shatterproof plastic and has a light that emits a soft amber glow.  This Pretty and Posh vanity is a beautiful combination of light and dark purples, a nice change of pace from everything pink in our house!

The Step2 Pretty and Posh Vanity is sold exclusively at Toys”R”Us. Want to win a Step2 Pretty and Posh Vanity for your beauty-loving child?   Enter using the Giveaway Tools entry form belowGood luck!

Those detanglers are great. My granddaughter doesn't even mind it when I brush her hair better bath time.

This is such a cute play/interactive set, I love it! I have two daughters and although I'm not very girly and don't wear makeup very often, they are always talking about it! They would feel so special to have a vanity of their very own. :)
