24 Fun Stacking Ideas For Toddlers

My younger children have always been eager to jump in and “do school” when their older siblings are homeschooling here. I’m always looking for exciting ways to keep them entertained while I focus on bookwork with the older kids.

One thing that’s great for toddlers and preschoolers is practicing stacking and building with blocks or other items. It helps to build fine motor skills and reasoning. This is one of those activities you can keep changing up to keep it fun and exciting day after day!

Some items you (and they) will find are easier to stack than others. It’s great to vary the items so keep things interesting and challenging for little ones.

Household Items That Make Fun Stacking Ideas for Toddlers

1. Wooden blocks

3. Boxes (I like to use empty cereal and other pantry boxes)

6. Plastic containers (like what you’d store leftovers in)
7. Clean diapers

11. Coins (only with close parental supervision, of course)

Food Items That Are Fun for Toddlers to Stack

Some items are also food items and I typically will let my children enjoy a little snack of the items once they are done. It adds to the excitement of the activity!
