As a mom of 6 kids, it’s an understatement to say that I do a lot of vacuuming. Oh yes, we also have a Saint Bernard who sheds a lot. My floors get dirty fast!
When I was offered the opportunity to review the Shellbot Robotic Vacuum Cleaner, I eagerly said yes. I already own one robotic vacuum cleaner that I keep on our main floor and I thought it would be very useful to have a second unit for our second level.

My Review of the Shellbot Robotic Vacuum Cleaner – App Portion
One of the things that excited me about this robotic vacuum cleaner the most was the ability to control it via an app on my phone. The app truly has not disappointed!
The app was easy to download and set up to connect to our vacuum, which we decided to call “Rosey” after the robot in The Jetsons.
I love that I can start a new vacuum cycle from anywhere. I can also stop the vacuum from anywhere.
Why does this matter? Well, we have another robotic vacuum without an app and it would frequently get stuck on something after I had turned it on and went upstairs for bed. I’d hear it upstairs in our room repeatedly banging into something or stuck and would have to get back out of bed to go down and rescue it. Now instead with Rosey, I can just grab my phone and turn her off from there, then fix whatever the issue was in the morning.
It also allows me to vacuum the house even when we aren’t home. I love that! You can set it up on a schedule as well.
The app also lets me set specific areas I do or do not want to be cleaned, adjust the suction level, and I can even adjust it to have it vacuum one time throughout the house or two.
Overall I have no complaints about the app. It works great and is exactly what I was looking for in an app for this sort of unit.
My Review of the Shellbot Robotic Vacuum Cleaner – Vacuum Portion
I have nothing but good things to say about how well this unit picks up the dirt and vacuums. It’s done a very good job of seeing obstacles in it’s path and avoiding them as well. It can even pick up on things like shoes and will make a note of that on the app.
The dirt cup holds a LOT of dirt which is helpful for me since I don’t have to empty it every single time I run the unit. I end up emptying it about every other day, but it would be even less if we didn’t have a dog that sheds a lot.
I haven’t had any issues with the vacuum unit going from wood to carpet to tile and back to wood. It handles all with ease and does a great job picking up the dirt no matter what the surface is. I also haven’t had any issues with it falling down the stairs. It can sense them.
I do have a rug in my kitchen with frayed edges and it will sometimes get stuck on those. I try to remember to pick it up before I start vacuuming. I would have to pick that up for a regular vacuum cleaner too though.
My Review of the Shellbot Robotic Vacuum Cleaner – Mopping Portion
If there is one area on the vacuum that could use some improvement it’s here. It is recommended that you only use water (no soap) in the water reservoir. I wish I could use some diluted cleaner in there.
The unit also will go from hard floor to carpet while in the mopping mode – unless you use the app to set up zones to prevent that. While it doesn’t appear that it puts out any water while on carpeted areas (because it is able to differentiate the two) it’s still dragging the damp cleaning cloth over the carpet.
That means that you are going to want to take the extra time to set up zones when you want to use the mopping portion, so just make note of that.
To be honest, because I can not add any cleaner to the water reservoir, I will likely almost always just use the vacuum function and use my steam mop when I want to mop and sanitize the floor. Maybe I will eventually try going against the recommendations and add cleaner to my unit at some point. If I do, I will be sure to update this post and let you know how it goes.
The one really nice thing about the mopping unit is that it also has a large dust cup so it can vacuum at the same time. My other robotic vacuum/mop unit hardly has any dust cup on the mopping portion and I hate that.
Overall Thoughts on the Shellbot Robotic Vacuum Cleaner
I give both the vacuum capabilities and the app capabilities an A+. I love them! I hope this vacuum lasts a long long time because I plan to use it a LOT! I probably set it off at least 2xs a day, sometimes 3xs, depending on how dirty the house has gotten that day. It’s a huge help to me and our busy family!
For the mopping function, I’d give that a C average. I think there could be improvements made but for helping to clean up when you just don’t have the time, it’s better than nothing! I love that the dusk cup on the mop portion is so large and I appreciate that the zone features on the app allow me to only mop certain areas of the home.
