Self Care During Isolation + Fun Ideas, Toys, And Activities For Kids {+ Giveaway!}

This ‘Self Care During Isolation + Fun Toys And Activities For Kids’ was first seen at Thrifty Nifty Mommy.  While sponsored, as always all opinions are my own.

We are knee deep in lock-down status and kids everywhere are getting antsy.  Well, if we’re going to be completely honest here, many adults are too.  We miss our friends just as much as the kids do!  So what’s a person to do?  I suggest trying to focus on self care for yourself.  Then, offer the kids some fun new ideas, toys, and activities to liven up the day!

Self Care During Isolation

Moms, it’s time to stop, take a deep breath, and reevaluate the rhythm of your daily family life right now.  Is the entire day filled with chaos?  Perhaps there are some aspects we need to rein in?  Or on the other hand, maybe we need to let other things go… with everyone home practically 24/7, it’s probably not realistic to keep the house sparkling clean.  Let’s all take a minute to think about everyone’s mental health.

Self-Evaluate

Is there any certain part of motherhood that’s getting to you right now?  Personally, even though we homeschool, the weather is getting nice so the kids are procrastinating big time with school work.  It’s a daily battle with a couple children to get the work done.  Since an important part of self-care is feeling like you are thriving as a mother versus beating yourself over the head with mom guilt, I’ve decided to let things go a little.  If the sun is shining, we all head outside to get some fresh air and burn off energy before starting school work.  And do you know what?  I know in my heart that’s the best thing for all of us!

Communicate

When there’s not a catastrophic event going on, communication is important.  So just imagine how much more so it’s important right now.  As mothers, we need to communicate clearly with our husbands and children on what we need from them.  (While I like to believe it’s common sense to put your clothes in the hamper, dishes in the sink, etc., CLEARLY it’s not.)  So we need to be voicing these directions clearly to our family members.  Perhaps even make a list for each person to accomplish during the day.  If I don’t write things down for my family, only one or two requests get filled as everyone forgets what I said.  With a written list that they cross off and bring to me once finished, life is much more orderly and I don’t have to repeat myself.

Implement Self Care During Isolation {For Everyone!}

Life has changed so much over the past several weeks.  I’ve noticed that each member of the family has different needs right now.  For one child, I’m making sure to offer additional, uninterrupted quiet reading time.  For another, it’s the freedom to ride bike around the yard throughout the day.  Everyone, no matter what age right now, needs to make sure they are implementing self care during isolation.  It’s hard knowing how to handle this social-distancing so really dig deep to see what can help each family member best.  Remember, it’s okay to admit things aren’t necessarily working right now; or that life is hard  Just take a deep breath and remember tomorrow is a new day.
