I (Kim) received a Safety 1st Guide 65 Convertible Car Seat at no cost to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.
Car seat safety is paramount, especially when it comes to our children. The statistics are terrifying and according to the CDC, Every hour, nearly 150 children between ages 0 and 19 are treated in emergency departments for injuries sustained in motor vehicle crashes. And safekids.org says, Motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death among children ages 1 to 19. This alarming information needs to be heard so that we can work to improve it. Knowledge is power!
Keeping our daughter safe in our vehicle is extremely important to us. We want to make sure she is seated properly, securely and safe! She has recently outgrown the car seat we received as a baby shower gift. Even though the weight limit is ok, she looks so uncomfortable. She is always squirming and the width of the seat is so small, that she looks squished. I knew I had to look into getting a new seat for her, so of course, I started searching to find the best car seats on the market!
We have a small family car and when I researched new car seats, I was surprised at how big they all were! We already have a hard time fitting the infant car seat we have in our car, I didn’t know how we were going to fit anything larger than that. And then I saw it… the Safety 1st Guide 65 Convertible Car Seat! This was the solution I was looking for!
This car seat is the perfect fit for a smaller car! It also would work well for a larger car to give you even more room on your seats. Their website states that in most cars, you can actually fit 3 of these in a row! How awesome is that?! And it’s adorable too! When I saw that it came in pink, I knew this one was for her… she loves pink!
My daughter will be able to sit rear-facing in this car seat for a much longer period of time compared to her previous infant car seat. The Guide 65 Convertible Car Seat can be used in this position up to 40 pounds. Then it can be turned to forward-face up to 65 pounds. This car seat comes LATCH equipped and has a recline stand to help you get the right positioning when your child is in the forward-facing position.
Their sturdy 5-point harness will be sure to keep your little one safe and snug while sitting in this cute car seat. You can make adjustments to the straps easily as it was designed for up-front adjustments. Whew! No hard to reach buttons or awkward levers to adjust. Love it!
Their side impact protection also gives us peace of mind. Knowing that she is secured and protected while riding in the car makes us feel like we are doing our job.
Now, let’s talk about comfort! This car seat has way more cushioning than her previous car seat. The adjustable and removable body pillows and head rest give your little one the perfect fit from 5 to 65 lbs. This car seat is ready to grow with your child. Also, it comes with an attachable cup holder. If your child gets thirsty while you are on the road, they can help themselves.
The Guide 65 Convertible Car Seat installed in the car with relative ease. We used the lap/shoulder strap to install our seat. The manual states that you can use rolled up towels or a foam pool noodle to get the correct install if needed. I was concerned about this when I read it in the manual. But, after doing some internet researching, I found that using these items to get the right recline seems to be quite common. It all depends on your car and they way your seats are against the particular car seat you purchased. You just have to make sure everything is secured and adjusted properly.
Thanks to Safety 1st, our daughter is comfortable and happy in her new car seat! I can tell she feels like a big girl, it’s so cute! She loves that it’s pink and enjoys helping herself to a drink of water whenever she gets thirsty. But, most importantly, both my husband and I are happy to know that she is safe and secure while riding in our car. There is no greater peace of mind while being on the road.

I can’t find these anywhere 😭😭 this is exactly what I need so my car doesn’t feel crowded with my 3 older children and a giant car seat. All I can find is the sport version and I would prefer to have the inserts 😭😭

I have always thought the Safety First was a great seat, never used it though - looks so cool here. I have to say this is one of the best reviews of the car seat I have ever read, maybe I will get one for my kid. Looks like a well made seat though the kid loves it and it looks quite robust.
You say you used shoulder straps for the installation, I had one reader on my blog say that LATCH is the best way to install a car seat. What do you think about LATCH? I have found it to be sturdier than seat belts for most of the car seats I have used. NHTSA also seems to think so too.
