I (Kim) received the Step2 Anniversary Edition Up & Down Roller Coaster at no charge to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.
Oh Step2, you stole my heart with the new Anniversary Edition Up & Down Roller Coaster. I first saw their original Up & Down Roller Coaster when I was pregnant with my daughter. Upon first sight, this toy was on my wish list of items for my baby girl. I imagined my daughter riding on it and having a great time. So when I saw that Step2 had made an awesome Anniversary Edition of this amazing coaster, I JUMPED at the chance to review this award-winning toy!
As soon as it arrived, I couldn’t wait to put it together and I was shocked at how easy it was to set up! There are no screws, bolts, or hand tools required. All pieces interlock and it only took 5 minutes to assemble everything! Seriously! Another great thing about it is the take down. Since there aren’t any screws to take out, all you need to do is unlock all the pieces and move it where you want it. Perfect for taking it out of the house for warmer weather and bringing it in for cooler months.
Step2 has changed up the colors of the coaster ramp to bright and cheerful blue, green and yellow. The ATV style car is now red and has four easy to apply decal stickers. My daughter loves red cars and is always pointing them out. So when she saw this red “car” she pointed and excitedly said… Carrrrrrrr! Already I could tell this toy was a success!
The coaster has an impressive 10 feet of up and down fun and has molded-in, recessed wheel wells. These keep the coaster car in place until ready for another ride. On both sides of the coaster ramp there are also ridges to keep the car on track for a fun, safe ride.
More features are the dual non-slip safety steps that lock securely into the top piece of the ramp for easy access to the coaster car. Once your child is seated in the ATV-style coaster car they will be able to rest against the high back, hold onto the handrail and keep their feet on the foot rests for a secure ride.
I thought a fun idea would be to make my daughter a cape to go with her roller coaster! As she rides down the ramp, how cute would that be to have it flap in the wind?! I didn’t want to make anything too fancy, just something easy and a fun accessory to wear.
What you will need:
Red Fabric & Thread
Yellow Fleece
2 Clips (I purchased suspender/mitten clips)
Fabric Scissors
Pins
Fabric Glue
Chalk
Measuring Tape
Threading Needle (to hand stitch the elastic)
Sewing Machine (or stitch it by hand)
The amount of red fabric you will need will depend on the size of your child. I made my daughter’s very small as I wanted it to be short and not get in her way. Therefore, a 12” x 12” piece of fabric was enough for us.
First, I folded the red fabric in half and measured 4” at the top of the cape, 7” down and 5.5” across at the bottom of the cape. When cut out, this would be 8” at the top x 11” at the bottom. I made it larger than I wanted, so that I could hem the material about .5” all the way around. Once pinned, it’s time to sew.
Once your cape has been sewn, then it’s time for the clip tabs. I made these only about 2.5” long and about 1” wide. I hemmed all sides and then placed the fabric through the clips and hand-stitched the tabs to the underside of the cape. You can sew it on your sewing machine, if you prefer.
Once that is complete, cut out a smiley face for the piece de resistance! I used a piece of left over yellow fleece that I had. You can make your smiley face as big or small as you like, but I love the idea of using fleece as you don’t have to hem it. Woo hoo! In fact, I would have used it for the entire cape if I didn’t think it was too heavy (in regards to weight and being warm). Once you have everything cut out, use your fabric glue and position the eyes and smile how you like. Now, you have an adorable cape for your little one to wear! Enjoy!
My daughter loved the coaster as soon as she saw it! The bright colors made her run to it and the red car certainly got her excited. She has never been on a toy like this before, so I wanted to take it slow. She got on the car and I put her above the first hump to see what she thought. Well, there were no worries for mama, she lit up like a bulb! So then I put her further up and let her ride down it again, this time without me “hovering”, hehe. Success! So then we made our way to the top and on her way she went. Smiles galore and giggles abound! Hours of playtime later, this coaster delights my daughter more and more each time she plays with it. My daughter’s one happy little lady and I am thrilled!
Energy buster tip: She also gets a kick out of walking up and down the ramp. Pushing the coaster car up or not, it’s a great way to get some energy out! Also, it works as a great slide. After my daughter walks up it, she likes to sit down and have me push her over the humps and down to the bottom. Which is a great workout for mom and dad!
It’s an amazing feeling to see my daughter riding on this roller coaster. From envisioning her riding it when I was pregnant to actually see her enjoying it, I am awestruck. Awestruck that it’s actually happening and how fast time really does fly by. Enjoy your little ones, play and have fun. Let Step2 help you in this quest, after all, they really do make the best toys!
