Here in Minnesota fall weather is in the air! This summer my family and I have enjoyed lots of time outdoors. Our favorite summer adventure was when we stayed at an Airbnb and went four-wheeling on trails around the area. Now that the weather is getting colder and we are gearing up for winter, it is time to re-stock my closet with new games to keep us entertained when the weather isn’t always perfect. As much as I loved getting outdoors this summer, I can’t wait for the change of pace with the fall and winter seasons. Winter may be a time of cold weather and shorter days, but we also get to enjoy festive decorations and cozy activities such as sipping warm drinks and playing board games with my family.

Games For All Ages

Some of our favorite games to play with our 5-year-old daughter are Guess Who, Twister, Connect 4, Crocodile Dentist, Pretty Pretty Princess, Rack-O Junior, and Boggle Junior. Our son, who is only 2 years old, absolutely loves playing Winning Moves Games’ Crocodile Dentist.

Here is a list of games I highly suggest adding to your collection at home. Some are tried and true— and have been around forever while others are new. But no matter which ones you snag, they all are so much fun to play.

Clue Master Detective

If you liked the classic edition of Clue, you’ll LOVE Clue Master Detective! With more suspects, more rooms, and more weapons, Clue Master Detective is the perfect game for a large group. Personally, this one is my all-time favorite!

Insert Card Here

This game is fantastic for children practicing high and low numbers. The best strategy for this game is to manage your cards carefully so you have one that fits between the high and low cards on your turn. Wild and Reverse cards keep the game moving. The first player to play all their cards wins!

Rack-O JR.

The goal of this game is to be the first player to fill your rack with cards, from lowest to highest. Number cards are color-coded to match the colors of the rainbow (and colors on the racks). This may be my daughter’s new favorite game. What a fun way to learn!

Deluxe Rook

If you are looking for a card game that involves wholesome, family fun, Deluxe ROOK is for you! This game is for 3 to 8 players. I just recently learned how to play even though it has been around for ages.

Tile Lock Scrabble

Who doesn’t like Scrabble!? It’s a timeless game of spelling. Thanks to this board’s clever “tile-lock” design, the tiles won’t slide around while you move the board across the table or rotate for a better view.

Checkers

Every game collection needs a Checkers set! It’s one of the first games most people learn to play and one of the games they’ll continue to play forever. I believe the term is “an oldie but a goodie.”

Flinch

Another great game for a child to have fun and learn how to count. The game is as simple as if you’re the first player to play all your cards in sequential order, you win!

Classic Clue Edition

If you like solving mysteries, this game is for you! With the process of elimination, find out which suspect was the murderer, what their weapon of choice was, and in which room the murder took place. Playing with a bigger group? Check out Clue Master Detective!

Boggle JR.

With Boggle Jr. your preschooler will transform letters into words! I am so excited to play this with my daughter. One thing my daughter wants to learn in Kindergarten this year is to read. Playing this game with her will be great practice.

Scattergories 30th Anniversary Edition

Scattergories is fun to play with a larger group of friends and this game will definitely make an appearance at my next family gathering. To play, you choose a category card, slide it in your folio, roll the die to see what letter you’ll be playing, and start the timer! Creativity counts when coming up with 12 different answers for each category.

Monopoly Scrabble

Experience a unique game of Monopoly Scrabble! This innovative game combines the best elements of the Monopoly game with the crossword-building play of Scrabble. If you don’t like the length of the classic Monopoly game, give this one a try!

Classic Wham-O Slip ‘N Slide

While not an indoor game, I just HAD to include this one because I have so many fond memories! I remember Slip ‘N Slides being so much fun as a child and I am hoping my own kids will love it too! We may have a few warmer days ahead before the cold weather sets in and I plan to set this up.
