Amy and I met way back in the summer of ’98 or maybe it was ’99. We spent the week together at a Christian family camp in Virginia and struck up a friendship, then became pen-pals and corresponded well into our high school years. We hadn’t talked in probably close to a decade and then, thanks to the power of Facebook, we were reunited about 2 years ago. Amy and I, it turned out, had both gotten married and became stay-at-home moms. In July, Amy gave birth to her 4th child, her second girl. Our families are so similiar!
I was sitting on my couch one night after the kids were sound asleep in bed, blogging (what else) when I heard the devastating news that my friend Amy had lost her husband. On August 2, 2016, Amy’s husband Alan left for work and was involved in a fatal vehicle accident on the PA Turnpike. All the wind was knocked out of me as I thought about the heartache Amy and her dear children were living through. Amy’s youngest daughter was only 3 weeks old at the time and her oldest child just 7. I couldn’t help but put myself in Amy’s shoes and imagine how hard this would be on myself and my children.
Four months later, I still tear up any time I think about Amy and her precious children. Although I sent a small care package when the tragedy initially happened, I wanted to do something else for Amy over the holidays.
For the 3rd year in a row, Step2 contacted me to “Play It Forward” to someone in need, and immediately I knew Amy and her family were the perfect recipients to send a special Christmas gift to. I talked with Amy and she told me that she knew her oldest daughter (age 3) would love the Step2 Love & Care Deluxe Nursery. Step2 shipped it out and it arrived at her home a few days ago. Amy is going to wrap it up and give it to her on Christmas morning. I know she’s excited to give it to her and I can’t wait to hear how she loves it! She sent me this image when it arrived:
Do you have a little girl on your shopping list who loves her baby dolls? This all-in-one nursery features everything toddlers will need to take care of their baby dolls. It has a changing table, washer, and feeding station all in one, plus storage for baby’s clothes, bottles, and toys! It helps foster nurturing play will be the perfect addition to any child’s playroom or bedroom!
Will you join me in keeping Amy and her family in your prayers this holiday season? It will, no doubt, be tough on them as the celebrate without their husband and father. If you feel inclined to send a card or monetary donation to wish Amy and her family a merry Christmas, you may send it to 1976 Shermans Valley Road, Elliottsburg, PA 17024.
A HUGE thank you to Step2 for partnering with me to send the Love and Care Nursery at not charge to Amy! I’m wrapping up another year as a Step2 Ambassador and I have to say, it’s one of my favorite companies to work with. I love how charitable the people at Step2 are. They recently visited their local police department where some of the officer’s children took the brand new Step2 Interceptor Foot to Floor Police Cars for a test drive. They also surprised the department with a $10,000 donation!
