I received product to facilitate this Peg Perego Viaggio Shuttle Plus Booster Seat Review. As always, all opinions are my own.
Does it feel like your children are growing up fast? Right before my very eyes, I can hardly believe that we’ll be homeschooling ALL five of our kids this year! Our youngest, Lucy, will be 5 in September so she’ll be starting kindergarten. Sam is 7 and is in 2nd grade. Alex is almost 9 and is in 4th grade. Jack is 12 and now an 8th grader. And our oldest, Hannah, is a freshman this year! The older I get, the faster time goes. So as we transition into the new school year, another transition will be taking place. Since Alex will be turning 9 in September, he’s graduating to a new carseat. So along with this exciting change, we wanted to share our Peg Perego Viaggio Shuttle Plus Booster Seat review with you.
Why Transition To A Booster Seat?
Years ago, it was nothing to see young children moved out of carseats and into a seatbelt. I used to babysit families whose 5 year olds where already just belted in. However, research has proven that carseats offer more protection and correct belt positioning. So instead of transitioning your child completely as they get older, consider upgrading to a booster instead.

Viaggio Shuttle Plus Booster Seat Feature Details
We all want to know a little more of what’s behind a product when we are trusting it with our child’s life, right? So here’s a chart with additional details.
This Seat Will Grow With Your Growing “Big Kid”
The Viaggio Shuttle Plus has the unique capability to fully accommodate a child’s growth by way of its 3D Total Adjust Technology. What does this mean? This booster can actually be adjusted in three different locations:
- The headrest can adjust to five different positions vertically.
- The upper backrest adjusts to three positions vertically.
- And finally, the side wings can expand out three positions.
But the best part is that all these adjustments can be made independently from each other, allowing for a truly original experience in comfort. This seat helps each of our three ‘booster-aged kids’ fit safely and comfortably. It adjusts to just the right size for each individual, which I love!
Lucy- (almost 5), Sam- 7, Alex- (almost 9)
Providing The Best Of Both Worlds – Security AND Safety
Securing the Viaggio Shuttle Plus to the car is made easier with the integrated rigid LATCH, equipped with a blnd lock attaching system which prevents the seat from being accidentally released by another passenger. (This can be an issue with multiple children!) The rigid LATCH can tuck back into the base, allowing for an easy installation if LATCH is not available. An aluminum-reinforced backrest ensures safety and protection against whiplash in the case of a front-end accident and additional protection in the event of a rear-end collision. EPS throughout the side wings and headrest also serves to absorbs energy during a crash.
Removeable Backrest
While the high back booster mode is an awesome choice for the initial transition from a 5-point harness. The Viaggio Shuttle Plus has the ability to transform into a backless booster to continue growing with your child. This eliminates the need to purchase a high back booster and a backless booster, since the Shuttle Plus is 2-in-1. With the simple push of a button, the backrest can be removed.
Final Thoughts On My Peg Perego Viaggio Shuttle Plus Booster Seat Review
I know this might be a silly feature to like so much, but I love the built in carry strap on the backless booster. It makes grabbing the base a cinch when my husband wants to take one of the bigger kids along in the truck.
Even though I plan to keep Lucy in her current 5-point harness for another couple years, I would feel totally comfortable sending her off in the Peg Perego Viaggio Shuttle Plus for quick trips with grandparents or dad. So it’s a great full time seat for Alex but also a nice back-up for Lucy at this point too.
The older two boys also really like how easy it is to buckle themselves in this seat, in both the full back or backless booster modes. All three kiddos say the seat is very comfortable. And, of course, they love the cup holder!
So what was your favorite feature that you discovered in my Peg Perego Viaggio Shuttle Plus Booster Seat Review? And tell me, do you have any kiddos growing up and needing a carseat upgrade this year?

I know I'm a few years late on finding this blog, but in 2024 it's still the only full review of this model! I fell in love with this seat, and we used Peg's infant seats as well. My almost 5 yr old twins are close to outgrowing our Britax Advocate's height max and transitioning into HHB (I'm still on the fence as to no harness but this is the seat I want when I get to no harness - I found Chicco has a higher height max still keeping a harness in the HHB for inbtwn), but I need to find info on the headrests. Do they need to be used with a car headrest? I'm worried my Carnival minivan headrests may interfere like they do with the Advocates (but I can remove them as per car manual, but IDK if Peg Perego allows this). Help! :-)

@Stephanie, Have you read the manual yet? It's available for download from the Peg Perego product website. i read through it and they don't indicate one way or another about car headrests. A few mentions of the car's headrest is not allowing it to interfere in the "recline" position, and if using in backless mode, make sure either the car's seat back and/or car'd headrest complete cover the head of the child for needed protection in case of a crash.
quote from manual: "In backless mode: Make sure some part of the vehicle - either the seat back or the head restraint - comes to at least the top of the child’s ears. Why? The top of the ears is the same height as the base of the child’s skull. When the seat back or the head restraint comes to at least the top of the ears, the child can not throw their head back in a crash. This support helps prevent whiplash injuries. If the vehicle can not support the top of the child’s ears you may not use this booster in backless mode and must use it in highback mode to give the child's head the support it needs."
Ive called PP customer service about some of my own questions recently and they are very helpful, perhaps they would have a better answer for you.
I just purchased this booster and look forward to trying it. i've done countless hours of research, so im hoping its a winner! :)

Hello,
This was a very good review! Can you squeeze the side wings to make it narrower (if yes any idea what is the minimum width it can go? Because this is possible on the FLEX one (but the seat felt too flimsy) and its NOT possible on the HBB one which is too wide. I am trying to fit 3 of these in my car. Thanks BR, George

We've just got this car seat and I wanted to ask, is the backrest flipping forward once the child want to reach for something? I find it kind of unsafe so I wanted to ask if we maybe forgot to lock the backrest? Can you let me know how is your experience? Thanks, Eva

Hi Eva,
Once kids reach booster age, it's recommended to 'lock' their seatbelts so they can't be wiggling and reaching. So we never had this issue but I also locked the seatbelts so it wasn't an option. In case of an accident, you don't want the kiddos to have any slack in the belt at any time when driving.

We just received this car seat and I was wondering if yours is a little wiggly to (the back piece) I love it removes that that might be the reason. But when I was deciding between this one and the flex I loved that I could make this one backless for trips or play dates.

Hi Michelle,
Yes, mine is the same. I've found that to be typical of the ones where they can become backless.

I recommended this to a friend that was looking for a new seat. I hope she likes it.
