Peg Perego Santa Fe Train Review

My Killian turned 4 last month – it’s so hard to believe! Ever since he was about 1 year old he has been obsessed with trains.

He has shared his love of trains now with his baby brother, Matthias. Together they spend hours on our floor playing with wooden trains nearly every day.

When I saw that Peg Perego makes a battery-powered ride-on train, well, of course I knew my boys needed to try that!

Assembling the Peg Perego Santa Fe Train

This train was very easy to assemble. You’ll need to charge the battery for 16 hours and then there are just a few screws to screw into place.

The longest part of assembly was putting on the decals. Even that didn’t take too long though.

My kids were SO excited to ride this train that they actually were riding it for a little while before I put the decals on. I just couldn’t make them wait any longer.

Anyone can assemble this train!

The track itself is also very easy to assemble and disassemble. See the photo below to see how it connects.

Basic Info about the Peg Perego Santa Fe Train

This train is recommended for ages 1 ½ – 3. It has a weight limit of 40 pounds. It rides around the track at just 1.5 miles per hour, which means it’s perfect for even young riders.

It features an easy push-button start. This train has a 6-volt rechargeable battery and a recharger is included.

It comes with a circular track. You have the option of purchasing a larger, figure 8 track for an additional cost. You also have the option of riding the train without the track.

What My Boys Thought of the Peg Perego Santa Fe Train

I honestly couldn’t tell you which boy loves this train more. They both really enjoy riding it around the track.

I keep it on our screened-in back porch usually and my boys enjoy going out most mornings to ride on it.

Matthias, at just 20 months old, was able to ride it without any problems. It’s so cute to watch him climb on and ride like a big boy!

The first time he climbed on it he said, “all aboard” for the very first time. It was so adorable!

Killian is technically over the recommended age but under the weight limit. Even at age 4, he still loves to ride on this train.

What Could Be Better

I wish the plastic on this train was a little thicker. Any Peg Perego car seat I’ve seen was very sturdy and well-made, so I was surprised when this train seemed a bit flimsy when assembling.

Despite that, it doesn’t seem like it affects the use of it for my kids. Time will tell how it holds up. Maybe the thickness will be just fine.

The other thing is that the train sometimes falls off the track. I’ve noticed especially if Matthias is leaning towards one side it will cause the train to derail.

Any time it falls off the tracks Matthias says, “oh NO!” and it’s adorable, so I don’t mind that.

Overall Thoughts on the Peg Perego Santa Fe Train

It’s absolutely adorable and looks, sounds, and drives across the track like a real train. Even with the things I would change about this train, I would still recommend it and I know my boys would too.

I like it’s smaller size and how easy it is to break apart the track for storage when not using it. It drives slowly enough along the track that I don’t worry but fast enough for my boys that they think they have the coolest ride!

We’ve had it for over a month now, and it’s still going strong. In fact, my 4-year-old just got home from a 2-week hospital stay (appendicitis) and it was one of the first things he wanted to play with.

Here he is riding it shortly after he got home from the hospital. It was also THE thing that really got him laughing again when we were home. I had missed that laugh and smile so much!

For a train enthusiast like my boys, this train is such a great gift! They will LOVE it!
