Growing up, I remember seeing commercials with kids driving battery operated vehicles. They looked so fun! Well, about 15 years ago, my parents gifted our older kids a ride-on truck and it turns out, they truly ARE that fun. We’ve joked how we wish that truck had an odometer so we could see how many miles the kids actually put on that thing over the years. Well, thanks to Peg Perego for sending us their Polaris RZR 900 12V Ride-On, now Lucy, Ruby, and our little foster love will have a vehicle too!

How Do You Pick The Right Battery Powered Ride On For Your Family?

When deciding on what type of battery operated vehicle would be best for your family, there are a few things to consider.

Probably the most important is, how many riders do you need it to seat? The most readily available options will be either a 1-seater or 2-seater. If you have more children, I feel it’s better to invest in an additional ride-on over searching for a larger battery operated vehicle that seats more than two kids. The biggest reason for this is because everyone wants to be the driver!

Next you’ll want to consider voltage. You’ll commonly find 6 volt, 12 volt, and 24 volt, although there are a few other options available too. Depending on the age of the child(ren) you’re buying for, you may want to search for a specific size.

For example, 12V ride-on vehicles are generally designed for younger children, typically aged 2-5 years old. 24V ride-on cars are more suitable for older children, typically aged 6-10 years old. However, this can vary depending on the specific model, so it’s always worth checking the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Finally, you’ll want to look at the available vehicle styles. You’ll find tractors, motorcycles, jeeps, gators, cars, trains, 4-wheelers, razors, and more. Choosing the style will pretty much come down to personal preference.

Peg Perego Polaris RZR 900 12V Ride-On Review

As I mentioned above, I was on the hunt for a battery powered ride on toy that would accommodate two children. We chose the Peg Perego Polaris RZR 900 Ride On as it fit the bill and checked all our boxes.

Assembly:

Everything came packed nicely in a large box. We unboxed all the pieces, took stock, and got busy building. My 16 year old son had our Peg Perego Polaris RZR 900 12V fully assembled in about an hour. The instructions were lacking in clarity but included step-by-step pictures that were extremely helpful. (NOTE: It did take me another 30 minutes to put all the stickers on once assembled. So I’d suggest planning to set aside up to two hours for set-up.)

Our Thoughts: Peg Perego Polaris RZR 900 12V Ride-On Review

Once assembled and charged up, we were excited to get testing!

The Peg Perego Polaris RZR 900 12V Ride-On definitely feels like a higher end power wheels vehicle. It’s a solid vehicle that weighs just over 60 pounds. Specs say this ride-on can handle up to 130 pounds and, of course, the more weight riding, the slower the vehicle will travel. When Lucy (9 years old and just under 70 pounds) jumps in with Ruby (about 25 pounds), there’s a noticeable slow-down.

I appreciate the gear shift lock as it ensures our toddler can go a speed we’re comfortable with. And like any new toy, there is definitely a learning curve involved for younger toddlers. My husband and I were giggling as Ruby was learning how to drive as it reminded us of our oldest daughter over a decade ago. But within just ten minutes of getting behind the wheel, Ruby was already making progress in her driving ability! We’ve found it drives best on our cement and gravel but also handles the lawn quite well too.

I was surprised to see the Peg Perego Polaris RZR 900 12V doesn’t come with seat belts. While kids ages 4 and up may not need them, I’d definitely prefer to have them for younger toddlers. After doing some looking, I did find a seatbelt and radio add-on kit available from Amazon that fits this vehicle.

So far, we have been loving this battery operated ride on. It’s a great size for younger kids and we have been having so much fun with it. Our daughter wakes up every morning asking to go drive her ‘truck’!

Something to note, you do need to park near an outlet as the battery stays in the vehicle while charging. (Not an issue for us but I wanted to make note of it.). I would love to see Peg Perego design the battery with a charge indicator so it would be easier to know how much battery life is left as the kids are driving.
