Two years ago we started the tradition of celebrating St. Nicholas Day. Part of the tradition in our family is that my older kids get to be St. Nicholas to their siblings and secretly choose a special Christmas ornament they are gifted in their shoes that morning.
My kids have such a fun time every year choosing ornaments and the great thing is that when they grow up and move out to start a family of their own, they can take their special ornaments with them.
The first year my kids just chose random ornaments on Amazon. I was less than impressed with the quality of some of them. So, last year, we got all of their ornaments from Old World Christmas. (Click here to see what they picked out last year.)

Because we all loved the beauty and attention to detail of all of their ornaments last year, we’ve decided to make it part of the tradition each year to gift an ornament from Old World Christmas.
Not only are the ornaments of great heirloom-quality, they also have a HUGE selection, so my kids never struggle to pick ornaments for each other. In fact, the problem is often that there are multiple ornaments they like and have trouble decided which to get.
Here are the ornaments everyone is getting this year, from oldest to youngest.
Maggie’s Getting the Axolotl With Candy Cane Ornament

Maggie is getting this adorable Axolotl with Candy Cane ornament. Jacob drew her name this year and when he saw this ornament he immediately stopped looking and proclaimed this was THE ONE. Maggie loves animals and has mentioned quite a bit how cute she thinks Axolotls are, so I agree that I think she’s going to love it!

Jacob’s Getting the Rainbow Trout Ornament

Zellene had Jacob this year and chose this Rainbow Trout ornament for him. He’s really been enjoying learning to fish this year….even if he hasn’t actually caught anything yet. The colors and glitter accents on this ornament really make it stand out.

Zellene is Getting This Bowl of Mac and Cheese Ornament

This is Gideon’s first year getting to help play St. Nicholas and surprise some of his siblings with an ornament pick. One of the siblings he got is Zellene. When he saw this Mac and Cheese ornament, her favorite food, he knew that was the one he wanted for her!

Gideon’s Getting the Mr. Potato Head Ornament

Maggie got to choose Gideon’s ornament and she chose Mr. Potato Head. Why? Well, Gideon is our silliest kid and she thought he’d get a kick out of this ornament. I think he’s going to love it too. It’s just the sort of thing he likes!

Killian is Getting this Train Ornament

Killian has loved trains for years now. They are his biggest passion, so I wasn’t surprised at all when Jacob chose this Train ornament for Killian. I know he will love it! The colors and details on this ornament are great!

Matthias is Getting This M&M’s Milk Chocolate Ornament

The other person Zellene got to shop for was Matthias and she picked him this cute M&M’s ornament. M&M’s happen to be his favorite candy.
I keep a small candy dish of them in our living. One time he hurt himself and I gave him an M&M to help distract him and make him feel better. Well now anytime he gets injured in any way he says he needs a Feel Better. Sometimes I think he over-exaggerates any little thing at this point to get extra M&Ms, but it’s so cute it’s hard to tell him no.
Matthias is going to love this ornament! You can purchase it HERE.
New Baby is Getting the Little Elephant Ornament

I think everyone hoped to be the sibling who got to choose for the new baby and the lucky one who drew him was Maggie! (Yes, I keep saying “new baby” because we still haven’t decided on a name for the little guy.)
I wasn’t surprised at all when Maggie showed me that she chose this Little Elephant ornament for him. She has always liked elephants a lot and I have to admit, he’s a cute little ornament for a little baby boy.

There you have it. Those are the 8 ornaments are kids are getting this year. Which one is your favorite?
