With four children ages seven and under, some days life can feel
a little stressful. I stay at home with my children, and homeschool as well, so there isn’t a lot of relief. There’s a lot of talking, following me through the house like they’ve been commissioned to be my shadow, crying, plenty of toy messes, and did I mention talking? Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my children and feel incredibly blessed to be able to work from home with them. But still, some days can be a bit much. Please tell me I’m not the only one?!
I want to let you in on a little secret though! If you have stressful days with your children the way I sometimes do, I have found a secret to resetting myself, having a better attitude, and getting through the day, and it’s relatively easy and FREE. It even seems to improve my children’s attitudes!
So, what’s my secret?
Seriously! I’m not kidding. Hymns plus also a few of my favorite more modern worship choruses. If you aren’t a Christian I can’t really guarantee success with this (although I’d still encourage you to give it a try). However, if you are a Christian, I’m telling you — TRY THIS! It’s like my stress starts to melt away with just the first song. I’m grounded and ready to keep going with my day. As a bonus, my kids are learning these classic hymns and choruses.
I have Amazon Prime and they have this handy Amazon Music app which is included free with Prime. They have over 2 million free songs on there! If you don’t have Prime, you can still listened to hymns for free on You tube. Just create a playlist of your favorites, then when the day starts to get a little rough, turn your playlist up and sing along. Here are some of my favorite hymns and choruses. These are the ones on my personal Amazon playlist:
- In Christ Alone
- Blessed Assurance
- It is Well with My Soul
- Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
- Great is They Faithfulness
- How Great Thou Art
- Untitled Hymn (Come to Jesus)
- 10,000 Reasons
- Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)
- The Happy Song
- Revelation Song
There are many others, these are just some of my favorites (and all ones that are free on Amazon Prime Music). I like to change up my playlist every month, taking out the songs I’ve grown tired of and adding in a few new songs. Lately I have really been digging In Christ Alone. It really speaks to me right now.
So there you have it. It’s easy, it’s free, and it works!
