Break out those old cassette tapes, fire up the VHS player, and take a walk down memory lane with me today while I talk about nostalgic toys and nostalgic games of the 90’s! Modern toys have nothing on toys from the 90’s!
What were your favorite toys? Growing up in the 90’s, owning a Barbie doll …or twenty, definitely was a must-have for most little girls. For little boys, LEGOs were popular then and still are now. Of course, we all loved playing video games on the Nintendo too, Mario anyone?
But did you know that a lot of other classic toys you and I played with growing up are still available to purchase today?
I used to love walking the aisles of the local toy store and dreaming about adding some of the must-have toys to my collection. We were poor and our toy collection was definitely smaller, but it’s pretty cool that some of the things I wanted and never got are still available for me to gift to my own kids today.
Nostalgic Toys and Games You Can Still Buy Today
Check out all of these great retro toys that have stood the test of time. These would still make a great gift for kids today and you can play with them and remember the good old days!
The best toys are toys that can stand the test of time!
I remember wanting a slinky as a child and my kids have been exactly the same way. They have talked and talked about getting a Slinky to watch it walk down our stairs and recently they did just that! They were so excited!
Every kid should own a Slinky - they are one of the most affordable toys out there too!
This classic infant toy has been around for a LONG time! Beloved by generations, it's time for a new generation to enjoy it too!
I LOVED this game when I was a kid! It's a 2-player game where players take turns asking questions about the other person's character to try to figure out who they are. It's so easy to play and even fairly young kids can learn it quickly.
Growing up, we only had a few Polly Pocket sets but I loved them! It was nice being able to take them with us on long car rides. While the newer Polly Pocket sets are not identical to the ones we grew up with, they are still the same style of toy and definitely just as fun too!
Baseball cards are definitely nostalgic and something most boys have growing up! I remember my brother having them and my boys have them now too.
See photos of endangered species come to life through awesome, eye-popping 3D images! Includes one viewer and two discovery kids reels of 14 endangered animals.
My little sister had this game and I remember playing it with her a LOT! It had to have been one of her favorites. I can even remember her convincing some grown men to play with her.
If you aren't familiar with it, players race to be the first to get one of each piece of jewelry (except the earrings, you need two of those) plus the crown to WIN. It's so simple and easy to learn and play, girls as young as 3 will enjoy it!
These classic Pound Puppies are looking for a loving home! They need someone to adopt them and love them, and have been waiting for someone like you to choose them as your very own pet. They are easy to take care of - just give them a little love and lots of hugs! If you take them home, they will love you very much. Collect them all!
Remember The Whoosh? Well, It'S Back — And Updated For Extended Play Value! Just Add Water To Re-Live The Classic Fun From The Original Handheld Game That Everyone Remembers! This Classic Retains The Original Simple Play Pattern (Just Push And Whoosh!),
I never had any Care Bears myself but my sister did and I love of my friends did too! Care Bears have been loved for years! You can still find original characters or new ones like this one that was recently released, the Do-Your-Best-Bear.
I love the Glo Worm!
I loved Colorforms growing up! Did you have any? Did you know they are still making them? They have new ones, like Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Frozen, and Charlie Brown plus nostalgic sets like this one.
A beloved toy since 1947! The Tonka Steel Classics Bulldozer is ready to demolish and clear away anything in its path!
Boys love digging dirt, sand and gravel with the workable blade. This bulldozer is built Tonka tough with real steel. My boys have all enjoyed playing with Tonka trucks. I love how well they hold up to their tough playing and being left outside for days at a time.
I LOVED playing Mall Madness! We didn't get tons of gifts or expensive gifts at Christmas growing up, but I remember the year I asked for this game and received it! I still have my 1989 version of this game actually and yes, it works! Sure, it's missing some pieces at this point, but my girls and I can (and do) still play it!
This is a newer release version from Hasbro if you didn't keep your old one.
I never owned a Teddy Ruxpin myself, but I sure do remember him! The newly released version of this storytelling friend certainly isn't cheap, but it looks like fun!
Rook was THE card game in my home growing up. We played Rook more than any other card game I think. This game is actually over 100 years old - it's been loved from generation to generation. Now's the time to introduce it to a new generation of card game players!
Do you remember this fun ankle toy?! I always wanted a Skip It myself. I didn't have one, but a friend of mine did and I loved playing with hers!
Lincoln Logs is such a simple toy and yet so much fun for boys and girls! My kids have enjoyed playing with them and building their own log cabins just as much as I did growing up!
As a girl, I didn't play with Micro Machines but my husband talks fondly of them. He loved his Micro Machines and was excited they still make them for our boys to play with today.
Lite Brite! I loved our Lite Brite. Sometimes we would set the pegs up and then use a penny and pretend like we were playing Plinko, you know, from The Price is Right. Lite Brite was so much fun. I'm thinking of getting one for our kids this coming Christmas!
Did you know you can still get GI Joe toys?! My husband was excited when he saw these! He used to love playing with these action figures!
Wow, this brings back memories! I used to love listening to my cassette tapes on this recorder! I had those book and cassette tapes sets that would read the story to you. Did any of you have any of the McDonald's book and cassette sets? Bride Flies Away was one of my all-time favorites!
I used to LOVE playing all things Mario on our Nintendo growing up! Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and friends were popular then and they are still popular now! Get a plush for all your favorite characters!
This wooden toy is a classic that all toddlers should own! It's a great way for them to practice problem-solving, work on their motor skills, and practice shape recognition. Two year olds will love it! I have fond memories of playing with one of these blocks as a kid!
Another great building set you might remember from childhood are TinkerToys! You can create so many fun and unique things with TinkerToys!
It's Strawberry Shortcake! Were you a fan? I was never big on her but I remember my sister liking her!
Okay, it's not identical to the Cozy Coupe we had, but it's close and I felt like it was still worth sharing! How many of you had one of these?
These old cash registers from Fisher-Price were so much fun! I used to love playing store or restaurant and pretend with this cash register. It's such a great toy for imaginative play. You'll definitely want to get one of these for your own child!
Check out these retro TMNT action figures! As a girl, I wasn't really into the TMNT but my husband certainly was! My boys have enjoyed playing with them too.
Fisher-Price definitely made some of my favorite childhood toys, what about you? This Musical Ferris Wheel Toy would still be so much fun today. I love the vintage look!

I love the chatter phone and the gloworm!! My kids have seen the little phone, but none of them had one. I would love to gift one of those to my new little nephew. I'll bet he'd love pulling it behind him when he's big enough.

I love that there are so many things out there from the 90s that you can still get today! I have three kids, so it is really fun to be able to get them the same toys and games that I played with when I was a kid. My girls love their Pound Puppies and Polly Pockets, and we even had a Lite Brite that they all love playing with as well.
