Are you finding your home short on freezer space? I LOVE buying food on sale and stocking up when I get the chance. However, that means that our big deep freezer is typically full and then, come summer, I don’t have any more room to store ice cream, freezies, popsicles, and other frozen goodies that help keep us cool and refreshed in the hot weather. So when I found the NFT050GA00 Mini Deep Chest Freezer, I was super excited as it’s the perfect size chest freezer for our current needs.

Things You Can Freeze

While I’m looking for a mini freezer for cool treats at the moment, definitely think outside the box as there are so many foods you can freeze. Some of the foods you’ll find in our freezers include:

• Cheese: I freeze both shredded as well as sliced cheese. (While you can freeze block cheese, I find it doesn’t slice well after thawing so I try to avoid doing that unless I’ll be using it for a dip and melting anyway.) We LOVE cheese in our home and some of our favorite recipes use cheese so when it’s on sale, I stock up!

• Cream Cheese: I always stock up on this when price is right and have frozen for 6+ months with no issues. Just make sure to take out and thaw before you’ll need to use. (If using for baking, I thaw -still in the foil wrapping- in a cup of hot water and it gets super soft very fast.)
• Butter: My oldest loves to bake so I stock up on butter so we always have some on hand.
• Bread: Nobody wants to run out of bread! This staple is perfect for grill cheese, ham sandwiches, toast, french toast, and other recipes so I always have a few loaves in the freezer. They thaw quickly and freezing is the perfect way to prevent them from molding. (Just be sure to rotate and use the oldest bread first as you don’t want to freeze it for too long or it’ll get dry and hard. I’ve frozen bread for up to two months with no issues though.)
• Cake/Cupcakes: Because my daughter loves to bake, sometimes we end up with too many sweets on the countertop. I’ll place cake or cupcakes in an airtight container and freeze for a month or so and they taste fresh and yummy once thawed.
• Fresh Fruits For Smoothies: When I have fresh fruit that is starting to look sad, I mash and freeze in ice cube trays and then place those little blocks in a ziplock baggie in the deep freeze. They are perfect for tossing into smoothies!
• Chips: Now hear me out, I KNOW this sounds weird! If you’re not going to eat your bagged chips right away, place them in the deep freezer. They stay fresh MUCH longer! Once open, we leave on the counter so they get eaten up faster.
• Prepped Ground Beef: I love to season and brown ground beef hamburger into 1 pound increments and freeze for quick meals. I can thaw and have a meal on the table in 30 minutes when I have the hamburger already done!

If you’re on the hunt for a mini freezer, this one is just the ticket! It’s perfect for smaller spaces, apartments, or if you have a specific freezer need — think… maybe storing up breastmilk or another specific food item. It would also be awesome for organizing freezer meals or stockpiling your favorite party snacks. The Newair 5 Cu. Ft. deep fridge freezer is small(er) in size but big enough to hold meat, ice cream, and snacks for the whole family.

This freezer came well packaged and arrived safely to our doorstep. It took just a couple minutes to unbox, move into place, and plug in.

Our Final Thoughts On The NewAir NFT050GA00 Mini Deep Chest Freezer

I am loving our new little freezer! It’s the perfect addition to our garage and makes it easy for the entire family to find ice cream and popsicle treats without having to dig in our ‘food’ freezer. I also appreciate how lightweight and easy to move it is as we’ll be able to quickly relocate it if we ever want to put it somewhere else.

My only (small) complaint is that sometimes the door seals a little TOO well on this freezer and it takes a little muscle to get it open if you try to lift the top lid immediately. This happens because air inside a freezer “shrinks” as it gets colder. This can sometimes create suction, which makes it difficult to open the door. If the door is closed quickly or slammed shut, air will be forced out and it may take several minutes for the vacuum to be released, after which the door can be opened normally. So just know that if you ever have this issue, give the freezer a few minutes and then you’ll be able to open the door normally.

General Tips For Freezing Food

• Be sure to allow all food to reach room temperature before freezing as this will help prevent excess condensation. 
• PRO TIP: Be savvy with your ice cube trays! – You can use them to freeze stock, liquid, tomato paste, and even eggs. Doing this creates perfect portion sizes for recipes later on. 
• For safety, never re-freeze raw meat that has been frozen and then thawed.
• Try to freeze everything at its freshest point if possible — so either when it’s just been bought or freshly cooked. 
• Make sure your freezer isn’t overpacked as this can prevent air from circulating. 
• As a general rule of thumb, nothing should be kept in the freezer for longer than a year.
