As far as parenting goes, all parents know there are moments, days, and seasons. Sometimes, I totally feel like I’m rockin’ it. Other days, not so much. But when I think about things in perspective, it’s the little things that count. Sure, I’d love to take my kids to Disney World again or on a long beach vacation somewhere. In truth, it most likely won’t happen. If you think about it though, time goes so fast. Just think…really think. From the time your baby is born, you have just:

The old saying is ‘time flies when you’re having fun’. But the truth is just that time flies no matter what is going on in life.

New Seasons, Happy Birthdays, And Milestones

“Today” (or this month) is a day that we’ve been waiting for and dreading at the same time. We are seeing both beginnings and endings. While some doors open, there are chapters in my life that are closing. We are now in a variety of new seasons, happy birthdays, and milestones. My baby is no longer a baby. Lucy turns 5 this month.

We’d always talked about having a big family. And while some people would consider 5 children to be a large family, Mike and I had always (slightly) joked about having a dozen. But after the birth of baby number five, the doctor warned against future pregnancies as he said it would be quite dangerous. So while we had still toyed with the idea of having another, neither one of us wanted to make that possibly life-threatening decision.

New Adventures And Possibly Good Byes

Perhaps some of you have been there. I keep asking myself ‘how do I know that we’re really done’? We’ve always been open to adopting and have even done foster care for a couple of years. But the situation of adopting never presented itself. So we’ve decided we’re on to new adventures. I’m not ready to fully say good bye yet. But for now, it’s ‘see you later’ about adding a baby to our family. I am putting it in God’s hands and if he brings us a baby, we’ll be thrilled. But if not, I know I’ll be okay now.

Good And Exciting Things Ahead

So as we focus on determination and hard work, lazy afternoons and family time, I’ve decided to make this (school) year a great one. Without all the appointments and commitments of when we fostered last year, I will be able to focus on our family. We are part of an amazing homeschool co-op and also get to tag along on field trips with another fun group. I’m jumping at the chance to take part in homeschool sports, Science labs, and other great activities we’d previously avoided. While I wanted to wistfully stay in the stage where my kids are small, time doesn’t work that way. But I do know that God has good plans for our family. So at the moment, we will look forward and march on.
