Oh, My Back!

Somewhere during my last pregnancy I realized my back has grown more sensitive to my sleep habits. Maybe it’s the many pregnancies I’ve had or maybe it’s just age.

My husband had an accident at work quite a few years ago and his back has never been the same. I joke with him and say he has to rotate like a rotisserie chicken all night or he wakes up with bad back and/or hip pain.

We were both waking up day after day in pain and realized we needed to upgrade our mattress. We are not wealthy by any means (hence the ‘thrifty’) and so the mattress we were sleeping on was a cheap (and I do mean cheap) Amazon special.

We knew our health couldn’t afford another cheap mattress like that but we also couldn’t afford the most lavish, expensive mattresses out there either. I bet a lot of you can relate!

Our Personal Experience with the Emma Hybrid Comfort Mattress

We’ve been using this mattress for about 2-3 months now so I feel confident that I can give it a fair assessment and review.

We have a king size mattress and it was heavy. We ended up getting my father-in-law to help my husband carry it up the stairs because I wasn’t sure that I could do it.

The first thing we noticed once it was on the bed and had fully expanded is that is was quite a few inches thicker than our old mattress. That made it a little bit more challenging for us to climb into bed at night because the frame of our bed sits high. That’s doable for us but I did want to note it as something to consider.

It comes with a nice anti-slip cover that has handles to help you move it when needed. I did purchase an additional waterproof mattress cover for extra protection.

Back Pain is SO Much Better!

Here’s the most important feature of this mattress for us – both Orin and I usually wake up now without back pain!

Occasionally Orin will sleep wrong and wake up with his back hurting but it’s not nearly as often as with our last mattress.

I had gotten a weighted blanket but when I had it on our old bed Orin said it made his back hurt even more. I think the reason it hurt his back more was because he didn’t rotate as much throughout the night because of the weight.

With our new Hybrid Comfort mattress from Emma, I’m able to use the weighted blanket again without it bothering Orin’s back. I love being able to use the blanket because I think I sleeper deeper with it, which means I wake up feeling more rested.

My back feels SO much better and only hurts now when I end up sleeping in bed with the youngest on his mattress.

So, What’s It Cost?

I know this is probably what you’re thinking. I get it! The economy is tough right now and I’m happy to report that as far as mattresses go, this one is pretty affordable.

The mattress prices will vary depending on the size you choose and current sales, but to give you an example, this king-size mattress is currently on sale for just $819. This seems very reasonable to me for a mattress that’s very comfortable and supportive.
