As my daughter Maggie’s third birthday approached, my husband and I tried to think of that perfect gift to get her. As a child of a blogger–and a blogger that reviews a lot of products for kids– it is true that my children get their fair share of toys already, so they can help me tell you, about the new products coming out.
One day my husband came home from work and announced that he knew the perfect present for our daughter this year: a battery-powered ride-on car. It seemed like divine intervention when I received an email just days later from Monster Trax to discuss us reviewing one of their products.
Monster Trax sent us a red convertible car (free of charge to facilitate this review), just in time for Maggie’s third birthday. My husband spent about 30 minutes the night before her birthday setting it up for her. When she woke up the next day and saw the car in our house, the first thing she said was, “Mommy, WHY is there a CAR inside of OUR house!” I don’t think I need to tell you how delighted she was when I told her that the car was a birthday present for her. (But yes, she squealed in delight!)
So, let’s get down to the basics of the car. What better way to tell you about them than with some pictures.
Yes, both of my kids fit into this car and they had a blast riding together.
Maggie loves that her car is just like mom and dad’s. She feels like such a grown-up driving it through our neighborhood and chauffeuring her brother.
When Maggie is driving this on the blacktop, the highspeed is much faster than I thought it would be. No, it’s not too overly fast, but fast enough that kids really think it’s something! The car also features a reverse gear.
The seat belts are cute (and Maggie loves to wear hers) however they are not going to keep a squirming infant in them (and I don’t really think they are meant to). If my son rides in the car with Maggie, I keep a close eye on him.
The steering wheel is still slightly hard for Maggie to turn on her own, so I do help her with this. She is only 3 however and I’m sure within the year she’ll be doing great on her own.
The gas pedal is easy for Maggie to reach, and I love that it is in the middle of the car, so either child can push it.
There is no key used to turn this car on, however kids can still feel grown up because the on/off switch is easy for them to use.
On average, we get about 30-60 minutes of use out of the car before it needs to be recharged. I feel like that is a pretty reasonable amount of time. The owner’s manual states that the product is to be used on smooth, flat surfaces which is why our battery is dying faster than normal. Maggie spends a lot of time in the grass going up our big hill! After Maggie is finished playing, we plug it in and it’s ready to go again in a few hours. I was impressed that this car had enough power for Maggie to be able to drive it up the grass hill at our house.
Overall, we’ve been very happy with the Monster Trax Convertible Car. My daughter has LOVED this little car and I have a feeling in a few short months, her brother will be fighting her for the steering wheel…..guess we’ll have to get him his own for Christmas!
You can purchase the Monster Trax Convertible Cars in stores at Walmart (I’ve seen them in our local Walmart!) or at Walmart.com. It’s on rollback at Walmart.com right now for $149.99! That’s a steal!
