When we found out we were expecting our first child, I secretly hoped it would be a girl. Sadly, that pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 13 1/2 weeks so I never learned the gender. The following six months were the longest of my life as we tried to get pregnant again. So when that little test showed a positive, all my hopes and dreams of a little girl came rushing back in. I would have been thrilled with a boy too. But when the ultrasound tech announced it was a girl, I was over the moon. However, as our first daughter, and now her younger sister, are growing up. I’ve realized more than ever that actions definitely speak louder than words. And that’s with everything. From talking to walking to what you wear. They Are Always Watching

If you have children, I’m sure you’ve had one of these cringe-worthy moments. You know. Where your child is behaving exactly the way you do??? I especially see it when our 4 year old speaks in an unkind tone. Because I know I’ve caught myself sounding the same when I’ve lost my patience. She’s watching. They are all watching. All five of our kids are paying closer attention than I care to admit. Which means that I need to make a conscientious effort. An effort to avoid speaking in ways I wouldn’t want to be spoken to. To ensure I’m paying attention to how I look too. Not only am I raising two daughter who I want to cherish themselves. To appreciate the gifts God has given them. But to also protect and honor themselves. To be strong, kind, and know they are valued.

Not to mention the fact that my husband and I want to raise our boys to be respectful men. Kind, compassionate, and with strong characters. So not only do I want to be sure to be modest around my girls, I also want my boys to experience that as well.

Modestly Clothed With Much Respect

I admit that when I was younger, I wore a tankini bikini. But the older I got, the more respect I developed for myself. I realized that I didn’t have to show off my skin to gain confidence. And you know what, my husband respects me for being modest too. He’s told me many times how much he appreciates that I don’t feel like I have to ‘flaunt’ anything to gain self worth. So we are also trying to instill this in our girls. We want them to know they are so much more than what the world tends to give women credit for.

Our oldest just turned 14. So along with the teen years come many changes. And as we work together to travel through these trying years, I stand firm with my daughter. I make sure to tell her that she is perfect just the way she is. She is so smart, kind, and a wonderful baker of all things sweet. (Like these Salted Caramel Billionaire Bars!) Not to mention, she makes phenomenal pancakes that everyone loves.

Both Hannah and I had a hard time settling on one particular style. So it took us a couple hours of scrolling through all the great choices before we finally made our decision. However, we’re both extremely happy with the styles we went with.

Coastal Breeze Adele Swim Top with Black Midi Swim Skort

Hannah went with the pretty Coastal Breeze Adele Top and Black Midi Skort. She really loves how the grays, black, and white all mixed together.

Super comfortable, both of her pieces are size XS and we say they run true to size. Her top does not have a built in bra so she wears a separate swim bra underneath. So if you decide to purchase this style, just know that you’ll want to grab a swim bra too.

The top features cute little ruches with drawstrings for maximum adjustability. Bright, fun, and practical, this modest swim set transitions smoothly from beach to cafe, so there is no need to waste time changing in between! Made of high quality swim material, both pieces dry fairly quickly. Perfect for helping keep you cool and comfortable, both on the beach and off.

Pebble Beach Maya Swim Top with Black Midi Swim Skort

I ended up picking the Pebble Beach Maya Swim top and Black Midi Skort ModLi modest swimwear for women. It’s super pretty in person and my little boys actually complemented me on it the first time they saw the top. The loved the little gold circles mixed in with the white. And the variety of circle shape sizes makes the pattern really appealing.

For the bottoms, I was definitely a size small. However, I was right on the border with sizing for the top. So I went with a small but definitely should have sized up to the medium. It’s a little small in the bust. Do-able, but definitely doesn’t fit like it ‘should’ as it feels a little restrictive to me. I honestly don’t think anyone notices but me though. With that said, I love it so much that I’ve already placed an order for it in size medium and I’ll pass this size down to my daughter as I think she can make it work even though she is typically an XS.

The Maya swim top is tankini and has a rounded neckline and a racerback style back. It also features drawstrings on either side, for maximum adjustability. This style does have the built in bra for support as well. The Midi Swim Skort that we both chose comes with attached shorts and provides full coverage.
