Today I’m rounding up a list of the best Melissa and Doug toys for two-year-olds. Our family loves Melissa and Doug toys. They are known for some of the best wooden toys on the market. I’m convinced they make some of the best toys for little hands! They are well-made and great for imaginative and educational play.
As a mom of six (and soon to be seven) I have a lot of experience with toys and two-year-olds. Not only that, but I’ve spent a lot of years in daycare and babysitting settings before having children of my own. The two-year-old classroom at the daycare is where I spent a lot of time during my daycare days actually, and I really enjoyed it.
Two years old is a fun age where children learn how to communicate, explore the world around them, and try to emulate what they see you doing. My youngest child, Killian, just turned 2 in April. Lately, he has been working hard on identifying body parts, making sounds for animals and objects (like car noises when he plays cars), and learning how to navigate trickier terrain, like walking up and down stairs.
As a frequent Melissa and Doug shopper, here are my top Melissa and Doug toys for two-year-olds. They would make great gifts for Christmas, a birthday, Easter, or just because.
The Best Place to Purchase Melissa and Doug Toys
My go-to place for purchasing Melissa and Doug products is directly from their website. They frequently have great sales and promotions and it’s better to support the brand directly by cutting out the middle man. Plus, you don’t have to worry about getting knock-off products when you shop through them.

Melissa and Dog offers some of the best gifts for kids
Every 2-year-old needs a great set of wooden blocks! Kids delight in stacking, building, and knocking them down over and over again! This colorful block set will help your two-year-old gain practice with fine motor skills and dexterity, and you can also use them to practice color and shape recognition.
My two-year-olds have always spent hours playing with blocks, even in their older years too! This classic toy is one that every child should own.
I am so happy that this set comes with a variety of different shapes since building with them will help with fine motor skills development.
We have this very kitchen set and my two-year-old has SO much fun with it! He loves pretending to fix food in the little pots and pans set we got. He will also go to the kitchen and get some of our plastic cups, bowls, and plates to incorporate into playtime too.
He loves that he is able to open and close the doors on this kitchen set and the working ice maker is a HUGE hit!
A kitchen set is so good for imaginative play for little ones. If you get it now, he or she will be playing with it for literally years to come! Even my 6 and 8-year-olds play with the kitchen set still.
We have this pots and pans set and it's been perfect to pair with the Melissa and Doug kitchen set! We don't have any play food but my kids have been using their imaginations to pretend to fix food without that.
Two-year-olds will love that these look just like the pots and pans that mom and dad use every day.
This is such a great way for toddlers to practice hand-eye coordination! Little ones will love using the included mallet to hammer the pegs. As one goes down, it causes another to pop up, teaching little ones about cause and effect.
Kids love being a part of the cause-and-effect fun of bowling! They are good for using both outside and inside thanks to their durable construction.
This bowling set is also a great way to being practicing counting with your two-year-old.
This set comes with 21 colorful wooden pieces for lots of stacking fun! My two-year-olds have always loved to stack, unstack, and stack again. This is another good set for practicing shapes and colors too.
My son LOVES these chunky wooden puzzles from Melissa and Doug! They are so easy for young children to grasp and place into the correct position. When I get out a stack of these puzzles for him, he plays for a long time!
Another great puzzle option is this sound-making pets puzzle. It's such a fun way for toddlers to learn animal sounds. Toddlers will love all of the different sounds this puzzle makes.
One more puzzle to consider, if your two-year-old is a fan of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (like mine) is this cute Mickey and Friends puzzle from Melissa and Doug. My toddlers have really enjoyed this puzzle and seeing some of their favorite characters on it.
Two-year-olds will love this adorable Fresh Mart Grocery Store! How do I know? We used to own it! My kids played with it all the time! When we moved about two years ago we had to give ours away (our new home was super tiny so we just did not have room). We gave it to my nephew and now he loves it too. Plus, when we visit, my kids play with it. Every. Single. Time. They love it, including my two-year-old.
This is one of those toy purchases that your kids will play with for a long time! It's a great "big gift" idea for a birthday or Christmas. It's also a great toy to pair with a play kitchen for added imaginative playtime.
Whether you purchase the shopping mart above or just want to set up your own pretend store on a few shelves, a shopping cart will make the imaginative play a lot more fun! My 2-year-olds have loved pushing this cart around, filling it up, emptying it, then filling again. Your little girl can even put her baby dolls in the front to ride along for the shopping trip!
This shopping cart is the perfect size for little legs!
If you get the grocery store, you'll definitely want to have a few items for little ones to shop for. I love this set because it also comes with a small basket, if you don't want to purchase the shopping cart right away.
Young kids will love going shopping over and over again!
Now is a great time to introduce musical instruments to your 2-year-old! The bright colors and beautiful sounds of this will be appealing to both little boys and little girls.
Even at only 2-years-old, my little guy loves to pretend to do everything I do, even cleaning! This is a great set to get to encourage a love of helping around the house for your little one. This set is always a great way for your son or daughter to practice their hand eye coordination.
Kids love having pretend tea parties! This adorable wooden tea set from Melissa and Doug is such a fun pretend play toy. Kids will have hours of fun playing tea party with mom and dad, older kids, friends, and even with their stuffed animals.
Does your two-year-old like to throw things? My little guy gets so excited any time he sees a ball! The Sunny Patch Dilly Dally Target Game is a fun toy for outdoor play time.
Initially, kids will have fun just tossing the bean bags onto the turtle. As they get older, older toddlers can also use this toy as a way to help practice colors and numbers, plus basic addition skills.
Two-year-old boys will love this fun dump truck from Melissa and Doug! This set comes with nine colored blocks in different shapes and two play figures.
It's the perfect toy for boys who love cars and trucks. Not only is it fun for them to push around the floor but it offers a lot of educational value too. You can practice color recognition and work on fine motor skills when your little one rolls this truck up to the construction site.
This simple toy lets young toddlers pound the four balls through the holes and watch them roll down the ramps. This toy will help build early shape, color, and size differentiation skills.
Two-year-olds like animals a lot, so they will love this farm play set. Your toddler can take this barn with them wherever they go. It's great for take-along imaginative play and play at home too.
Melissa and Doug has a large selection of giant stuffed animals, like this cute Jack Russell Terrier Dog. Two-year-olds love big, cuddly plush animals. They are great for snuggling with. Melissa and Doug has an elephant, horse, duckie, dragon, moose, tiger, bunny, and more.
