The holidays are fast approaching and in our house that means between Christmas cookies, homemade gifts, and then of course, those delicious Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s meals, Mom rarely leaves the kitchen. I love cooking and baking (it truly is one of my favorite things to do) but when I’m preparing for those big dinners, I hate having the extra burden of our every day meals to worry about as well. Thankfully, Crock-Pot stepped in with their new Express Crock Multi-Cooker (sent to me at no cost to facilitate this review) that not only helps to make my holiday meals a little more stress-free, but I’ve replaced three small appliances with this one single tool!

I have been wanting to try my hand at a pressure cooker for some time and I’m so thankful that I waited until this baby came along! This appliance is not only very easy to use, it also comes with a small recipe booklet to help you get your bearings as you learn to use this machine.
The first week that I had the Express Crock Multi-Cooker I wanted to try as many different types of meals and settings that I could. The Recipe Book has a great idea for Beef Stroganoff and so I started with that one. What’s great about this appliance is that instead of throwing everything in “slow cooker style” (which you can still do), you can first sauté and brown ingredients to bring a much fuller flavor to your meals. After mastering the Stroganoff dish, which the entire family raved about, I knew it was time to face the ultimate challenge (insert the drumroll): Mexican Pinto Beans. My amazing Mother-in-Law (who is 100% Hispanic) makes Mexican food with flavors I could only dream of accomplishing. She makes an amazing pot of beans and I wondered if I could really do what so many pressure cookers claim to do – cook beans in under 1 hour.
I took out my bag of pinto beans and gave them a good rinse and threw them in the Express Crock. I added my spices, garlic, and water that my recipe called for, sealed up the lid, turned the knob to ensure no steam escaped, hit the pressure cooker button and set the time for (you’re not going to believe this…) 45 minutes! When the timer went off I allowed the beans to sit for another 15 minutes so that the steam could naturally depressurize, and then carefully turned the knob the opposite way to allow the steam to escape. I lifted the lid and what did my eyes beyond? Without any soaking, there before my eyes were delicious beans! My husband didn’t believe me until he got home and tasted them for himself. The beans went so well that I decided to go all out and make some Carnitas. Ya’ll, it was fall-off-the-bone outstanding!
Since this amazing wonder has come into my life a couple things have changed. First, I got rid of my other slow-cooker! Why keep around three different appliances when one can do all the work? Second is that the Express Crock makes meals so incredibly easy that I’ve found myself putting dinner in Express Crock when I have a break in my day. This unit makes meals easy by being able to set a timer for cooking. Once the cook time of your recipe is up, the Crock Pot Express Crock switches immediately to “Keep Warm” which keeps everything warm and heated till you are ready to eat. If you aren’t cooking with meat or ingredients that need to be refrigerated, you can also set it to begin cooking at a specific time as well.
This pot has made things so easy that my husband insists we are packing it in our minivan to take with us on our upcoming holiday trip to Michigan. If you are stressed about cooking meals on top of preparing those big holiday feasts, you will be so glad you invited the Crock-Pot Express Crock into your home! I know that next weekend when I’m up to my elbows in flour, and stuffing, and mashed potatoes and pumpkin pies the day before Thanksgiving, I’ll already have lunch and dinner taken care of in this sanity-saving machine!
