My daughter Maggie recently turned 3 years old and one of the presents we wanted to get for her this year was a water table for kids. I looked high and low for the perfect water table for her and settled on the Little Tikes Anchors Away Pirate Ship water table.
I know some of you may be thinking, “a pirate ship….for a little girl?!” YES! My daughter loves pirates and searching for treasure!
Maggie was so excited when she saw her pirate ship and even more excited when I explained to her that this pirate ship would be filled with water!
The Little Tikes Anchors Away Pirate Ship was easy to put together. You will want a power drill and a screwdriver and you’re ready to set up. I set this whole thing up while my husband was at work in about 20 minutes.
The Little Tikes Anchors Away Pirate Ship comes with lots of cool accessories/features including:
- Shark (Maggie has named him Chomper)
- Two pirate characters
- Anchor on a string that rolls up and down
- Water-shooting canon
- 2 water scoops with different hole patterns on the bottom
- Liferaft and boat for characters to ride in
- A steering wheel that spins
- Center mast featuring water you can pump through it or pour down to spin the gears
When we first received the Little Tikes Anchors Away Pirate Ship, it was still pretty cold outside and Maggie was just dying to try it. So, I grabbed a few towels, put the ship in the kitchen, and filled it up using buckets of warm water. She had fun for an hour playing with this set, and really did not make too much of a mess in my kitchen. The mess that was made was well worth it for the fun she had playing.
Now, when her baby brother woke up from his nap, he enjoyed the ship too….and then we had a small mess!
We have since taken this toy outside as well and truly, both of my kids (Maggie age 3 and Jacob 11 months) love this water table. When the kids are done playing with it outside (or inside) there is an easy drain you’ll open to let the water flow out.
Now, many people I’m sure will let their table sit outside all summer long. The sun will eventually fade toys outside, however, so I usually try to let it dry, and then either move it indoors for dry indoor play (it works great for that as well!) or to storage in the garage until the next day we play. By taking this toy inside each time (it is not very heavy at all) it will stay brightly colored for much longer.
I think the only improvements that could be made would be to the canon. The water-shooting featuring is not very good or as easy to use as I would have hoped (you have to push down ALL the way and you’ll need to prime it a bit to get it going) but it’s certainly not a deal breaker. I would also love to see an accessory package made available where we could buy extra people and aquatic animals.
Overall, we really enjoy this water table. It is sturdy, just as you would expect from Little Tikes, and loads of fun for the kids! If you’re looking for a great water table, you might also like the Step2 Paw Patrol water table.
