Kool Aid Playdough Recipe

My kids love making this!

I’ve always loved saving my family money! Since we live off of one income, saving money wherever we can is essential! One of the ways we save money at our house is trying to make things ourselves at home. Playdough is one of those things that is easy to make, and so much fun for kids, not only to play with, but also to make! One of our favorite types of playdough to make is Kool Aid Playdough. It’s so bright, colorful, and smells great too!

This morning, Maggie and I made “Grape” Kool Aid playdough, and I thought I’d share the recipe with you, so you can try it out too.

  4. Stir over medium heat until it looks like slightly lumpy play dough–the 3rd picture below–and all water is absorbed.

  7. The end result should have the color of your chosen Kool Aid. I cooked mine for about 6 minutes. Depending on your stove, you’ll need to adjust that time.
  8. Let the playdough cool completely before moving on to the next step–it’s hard for kids to wait I know, but this is important.
  9. After the playdough has cooled, if it is still sticky, add flour to thicken it up.

Now you’re done and ready to play! Let your kids have a blast with this fun, cheap play dough that smells great too! Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness! Maggie had so much fun creating animals, pretend foods, and more. I let Maggie use our cookie cutters for added fun.
