Baby food, for me, is a very important focus as a Mom. I like having control over what my baby ingests, especially in those first few months of eating solids, which is why I am generally not a fan of commercially processed baby food. My first born never had any, EVER. Then 18 months later my second came along. It’s at that point, or at least it was for me, that you have to start picking your battles. Let’s face it, pre-made, pre-packaged baby food is SO CONVENIENT! My second was also way pickier than my first, so we both discovered the ease of the organic squeeze pouches, such a blessing! Still my conscience wasn’t quite happy, all of the added sugar, preservatives (natural or not) just didn’t make me happy. With my third, same deal, I wanted CONVENIENCE! But thanks to infantino I’ve hit the jackpot! This is the best of both worlds, so convenient, easy to use and you can put practically anything you want in there.
I was sent the items pictured above (at no cost) for review –
- 1-Squeeze station (3-tubes, 1-press and 10-squeeze pouches)
- Freezer sleeve
- 50-pack of the disposable squeeze pouches
- Reusable squeeze pouch
- Couple a Spoons
The Fresh Squeezed feeding line is completely BPA, PVC, Phthlate-Free! It also comes with a handy fridge magnet so you know just how long you can safely store your Squeeze Pouches in the fridge or freezer. It also talks about how to defrost them safely – DO NOT microwave! Simply thaw in warm water and serve.
The Squeeze station is so compact and easy to store! The press fits into one of the tubes and the tubes gently pop onto the bottom of the station so you can easily slide everything back into the box.
Alright, let’s dive into using it –
When it comes to filling your pouches, the tubes screw onto the pouches, not the station. Which is actually a little bit of a downside to me, it would make filling 30 plus pouches go way faster if you didn’t have to remove the tubes after every filling. That being said, I’m sure the way that it’s designed ensures that the seal between the pouch and the tube is completely solid. If it weren’t, your lovely homemade puree would be sure to go everywhere. With the way that it’s designed, there was hardly any mess on the station itself and it was mostly due to my user error! Ever heard the saying “A messy chef is a good chef!” ? I haven’t either, but maybe I should patent it.
You’ll notice that the tubes each have three lines, or notches on them. If you pour your puree up to the top line, you’ll be good to go, should be a perfect fit in the pouch. Something to keep in mind when you’re making your puree – A good consistency is that of applesauce, not too runny and not too thick. The reason being, anything much runnier than that would come pouring out of the pouch instead of actually squeezing it out. You can however, make it a decent amount thicker if you want, especially for those older babies that just have to do it themselves. That’s another nice feature about the station, you are able to customize the thickness, texture and consistency of what you put in the pouches. So it can grow with your baby, start them out nice and smooth and gradually start making it a little thicker and chunkier.
There’s my first batch, dated, labeled and ready to go! The freezer sleeve is quite handy at keeping everything organized. If it were me, I’d buy two of them. One for the freezer and one for the fridge, just rotate them as needed.
Cleanup is so easy! I’ve done it both ways, by hand and in the dishwasher. The top and bottom of the Station very easily pop off to make it a breeze to get into the nooks and crannies by hand or make it small enough to fit in the top rack of your dishwasher. All of their products in this line are dishwasher safe. (top rack only)
As you can see, my little boy is a fan. The reusable pouch is just as great as the disposable, easy to fill, squeeze and clean. The spoon attachments are really neat as well and can screw onto both the reusable and disposable pouches.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I have! Below is a favorite recipe at my house, which is featured in the pouches above. The recipe works great for filling the pouches and as a soup for the big people in your family.
Leek and Butternut Squash Soup (for babies and adults!)
- 4 TBS of butter
- 2 Stalks of Leeks, washed thoroughly and sliced
- 3lbs of Butternut squash, peeled and cubed
- 1 1/2lbs of Potatoes, peeled and cubed
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups of Chicken broth
- 1 (13.5oz) can of full fat Coconut milk
You’ll need at least a 5qt pot to make this soup. Place the butter in the pot on medium heat and melt, then add the next 4 ingredients. Cover pot with lid and simmer (stirring occasionally) for about 10 minutes. Then add the chicken broth and increase heat to a medium-high setting, cover and cook for about 30 minutes, until it reaches a rapid boil and all ingredients are soft. Take pot off heat and remove lid to bring the temperature down on the soup. Next you’ll need a blender, Vitamix, or whatever your kitchen gadget of choice is. An immersion blender would work wonderfully for this! I however do not have one so I use my trusty Vitamix to do the job. Scoop out the contents of the pot and blend until it reaches the consistency you’d like. My family and I prefer it to be a very silky-smooth texture, but if your preference is to have more of a chunkier texture, go for it! It took me 2 blender batches to do the job, so you’ll need an extra pot or bowl to hold the already pureed product. Once everything is blended and returned to the pot, stir in the can of coconut milk and you’re done. If adding this recipe to the pouches you’ll want to make sure it’s completely cooled off before stuffing them.
