We are in countdown mode to Black Friday! How many of you will be shopping this year on Black Friday? As you know, I’ve already completed a good portion of my shopping but I plan to finish the remainder of it when I can get the best sales, and that’s this weekend! I’ve gone Black Friday shopping a lot and have learned a few tips along the way that have helped me save the most money each year. I wanted to share those tips with you today!
Make a List, Check It Twice
Santa has a list and you need one too! Sit down with your kids this week and have them write their letters to Santa. Once my kids have made their lists, I look it over and decide which of those items I’m going to get them, and then generally add a few items that they need or I think they would really like. Oftentimes it’s not the gift that they ask for that they get most excited about, it’s those special gifts that I’d thought of that really surprise and delight them.
Don’t forget stocking stuffers! Write down ideas for your kids for those items, plus your budget for each child.
Once your kids’ lists are complete, then make a list of everyone (and I mean everyone!) else that you need to buy a gift for. Aunts, Uncles, parents, grandparents, neighbors, co-workers, etc. Make sure you write them all down! Then, next to each name, write gift ideas. If I don’t have a particular gift idea in mind, then I put my budget for that person.
There’s nothing worse than having someone gift you an item and you have nothing to gift them in return. For that reason, I also keep a generic gift on hand, ready to gift, should that awkward moment happen.
Once your full list is done, you’ll have a clear picture of who you still need to buy for, plus what kind of budget you’re looking at. If you get to the end and realized you’ll be spending more than you intended, rework that list until you get the budget right.
Start Planning Now
There were years in the past when I’d wait and plan all of my Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving Day. I had to, because I was waiting for those coveted newspaper circulars to arrive. That’s a thing of the past! Now you can access the Black Friday ads days, sometimes weeks early by utilizing Flipp – the best app to find deals on everything you need. My favorite Flipp tool is the Shopping List feature, where I can plug in all the specific gifts I’m looking to snag a deal on this Black Friday. Once my Shopping List is complete, I can click on any specific item on my list to see where it’s on sale and which retailer will provide me with the best deal.
Thanks to Flipp, my Black Friday shopping is already planned and ready to go!
My husband and I are putting the adulting into Christmas for each other this year and getting joint gifts. We need a new television and also an entertainment stand for our bedroom. I’ve been wanting one of those stands with the electric fireplaces in them for our room and we noticed our local Walmart will have them on sale this Black Friday for $155 along with a 55″ 4K television on sale for just $298!
Utilize Flipp Search
Making your game plan for Black Friday on Flipp saves time! There are a few ways you can shop Black Friday on Flipp. First, if you dabble in Black Friday shopping and simply want to be aware of what deals exist. You can easily browse through the Black Friday flyers on Flipp, view what’s on sale, and tap any items you may want to purchase. Those items will get stored directly to your Shopping List! Second, there may be one or a few specific items you’ve been wanting and are finally going to purchase if they’re on sale. Simply type in the exact name of the item in Flipp’s search engine on the app, and it will display any flyers that are featuring that item for Black Friday.
For example, both of my girls asked for Hatchimals this year. By searching “Hatchimal” on Flipp, it shows me all of the stores near me that will have it on sale for Black Friday and the corresponding prices.
- Walmart will have the Golden Lynx exclusive Hatchimal on sale for $49.88
- Walmart will have the Hatchimal Surprise on sale for $52.82
- Target will have Hatchimals Glittering Garden on sale for $54.99 but you also receive a $20 Target gift card as a bonus with purchase!
Plus, by searching Hatchimal, Flipp gave me other Hatchimal gift options, like Hatchimal pajamas, games, even Christmas ornaments (which I didn’t even know existed but now plan to get as stocking stuffers for my girls!)
You can search for anything though: LEGO, Barbie, Step2…the possibilities are endless!
Don’t Forget the Small Stuff
Some people use Black Friday as a way to get the biggest, most expensive items on their Christmas list while they are on sale. And, don’t get me wrong, that’s a GREAT idea and a portion of what I do every Black Friday. But, as I mentioned above, don’t forget the stocking stuffers and small items on your list! Saving just a few dollars here and a few dollars there on the smaller items can really add up fast!
I like to get each of my kids a new DVD each year as part of their stocking gifts. I find that Black Friday is the best day of the year to get great deals on movies! With Flipp, it’s easy to see which stores will have the best DVD sales for the ones my kids have been wanting. Jacob has been asking for the new Cars 3 DVD and it will be on sale for just $5 at my local Walmart this Black Friday! I also noticed that some of the stores will have Scooby Doo DVDs marked down really low – Scooby Doo is always a popular show around my home!
These are my best tips for saving time and money on Black Friday. What are yours?
