It’s that time of the year when we are all having tons of packages shipped to us and from us. Lately, I’ve been having issues with some of my FedEx shipments. UGH. That meant I needed to call into FedEx Support to talk to someone about it. The only thing is that when I called in I got one of those automated services where they want me to explain my issue so they can have someone help me, but my issue is just too difficult to get the service to understand.
A phone tree, an auto-attendant, an automated telephone information system – I don’t know what you call them, but I personally usually hate having to deal with those systems. I usually have some kind of complex issue that’s just too difficult to explain in a way they can understand and help me with.
It’s maddening and I’m sure you have experienced it too at some point or another when calling a 1-800 customer service number.
I’ve tried pushing “zero” before when calling FedEx, but the bot just tells me I have to tell her what I’m calling about. After pushing zero a few times, she hung up on me!
Well, as most of you know, I have 6 children and it just so happened that having a fussy toddler at the time of my call to FedEx was a huge blessing in disguise. I learned a trick to get through to an actual human without having to go through a huge hassle with the automated telephone information system.
A few days ago when I was on the phone with the robot at FedEx, my toddler just kept screaming in the background. Every time she (the auto attendant) would start to talk, she would stop again because she thought my toddler screaming was me talking (or I guess screaming at her). After she started to talk then stopped again due to the fussing about 5 times, I was sent over to speak with a human!
Unfortunately for me (but maybe fortunately for you!) I had to call into FedEx again today. I decided to see if it was the fussing that helped me to get through or just a lucky day for me. So, today when the robot started talking, every time she talked I started making crying baby noises. Now, I’m sure I sounded ridiculous, and to be honest, I felt ridiculous. I was laughing in between the fake crying noises I made but, you guys, IT WORKED! My baby crying worked and I was put through to a human again right away!
It definitely felt weird to make crying baby noises to an automated machine, but I will do it again and again if I don’t have to deal with those!
I’m super excited about my newfound knowledge and sharing it with you in case you have to call into FedEx customer service this holiday season too! I bet you could try this trick with other phone tree systems too and get patched over to a human as well!

OMG! Lady, This absolutely WORKS!!! I am an old lady...69 and holding...I am so frustrated all of the time with FEDEX...You can't get ANYBODY!!!! The prompts don't even have anything to do with what I want to know...I wanted an answer!!! Well, I kept get getting hung up on BY A ROBOT!...So, I googled "How to talk to a REAL person at FedEx customer service"...and your experience came up...So, I tried it... I don't have any babies, but I faked crying like one and BOOM...a live customer service person was on the line!!!!... So, Thank you so, so much! I also gave FedEx a piece of my mind. I had a FedEx tracking no and a notice that my packages would be delivered by the end of the day. They only deliver until 8 pm...Well, they never came. Of course, I had to read all my tracking numbers to her and she said they were invalid. I said, "Oh no they are NOT!" I gave them to her again and she said, "Oh, I see, they are supposed to be delivered by the end of the day ma'am." I said, "The end of the day ended. You only deliver until 8 pm." Then she said, "Well, it is not our problem. You need to call your supplier and tell them what is going on because they ordered FedEx economy shipping." I said, "You mean the place I ordered my items from?" and she said "Yes Ma'am" I said, "Listen Ma'am...That is not even common sense. That company hired FedEx to deliver my purchases. It doesn't matter if they ordered the top of the line service, or your crummy economy shipping! They paid YOU, FedEx, to ship the items...Use common sense! That company is not delivering my items, they are not loading the trucks. They are not the drivers transporting my purchases and delivering it. Stop trying to PASS the BUCK! You do this with everyone I think. The same thing happened when I ordered craft stamps...FedEx said it wasn't their fault and I needed to contact my supplier who decided to use their FedEx economy shipping! When FedEx gives me an email notification that my packages are on the way and I will receive them by the end of the day...Then THAT is what I expect! Also, FedEx has misdelivered my packages many times, left them at the wrong building, outside on the sidewalk, and at the wrong apt. It's no wonder there are thieves! Ma'am I realize you work for them, but FedEx is the WORST delivery service there is...even worse than Amazon!!!" After that, she said, "Well, all I can tell you is to wait longer for your packages. Maybe it will come next week." I could tell my hair out...Anyway...There is my rant!!! You have a nice evening! Vicki K.

@Janessa, Yeah, do your crying trick and give them a piece of your mind! Tell those potlickers that you don't live in your driveway! Yeah, UPS is way better...Amazon in my area has been improving though, but I have had a lot of mishaps with them in the past! I will be 70 in a couple of months...I shouldn't have to wander around (especially in this heat), playing "Find the Package!" It's insane! I called the company I bought the products from and had the customer service lady laughing so hard. She is going to share your "tip" in the breakroom. She said they get a lot of that...FedEx trying to put the blame on the companies paying for their economy service. She agreed...The blame falls on FedEx! They load the trucks, drive the trucks, arrive at FedEx stations, and deliver your package (even if it is in your driveway)...ha! The company you order from has nothing to do with that! Anyway, sorry you has a Drive-by Delivery...a Drive-by and Throw-Out-the-Window delivery! ;) Thanks again for the tip! Worked like a charm!!!! Have a good night!

Well I am so sorry to hear about your frustrating experiences with FedEx but SO glad to hear the trick worked for you. It's insane and horrible that we have to do that just to get a live human on the line, but I mean, whatever it takes, right?! I actually had a FedEx delivery today. The email notification said that it was delivered to my front door. I checked there, nothing. I looked all around my house. Checked my back door, checked the garage door, nothing. So I clicked the link that shows you a photo of where it is...it was down at the end of my driveway thrown into the grass off to the side of it. Now, my driveway isn't super long but it's not short either. I feel like their customer service just keeps getting worse every year. UPS is far superior.
