It’s that time of the year when we are all having tons of packages shipped to us and from us. Lately, I’ve been having issues with some of my FedEx shipments. UGH. That meant I needed to call into FedEx Support to talk to someone about it. The only thing is that when I called in I got one of those automated services where they want me to explain my issue so they can have someone help me, but my issue is just too difficult to get the service to understand.

A phone tree, an auto-attendant, an automated telephone information system – I don’t know what you call them, but I personally usually hate having to deal with those systems. I usually have some kind of complex issue that’s just too difficult to explain in a way they can understand and help me with.
It’s maddening and I’m sure you have experienced it too at some point or another when calling a 1-800 customer service number.
I’ve tried pushing “zero” before when calling FedEx, but the bot just tells me I have to tell her what I’m calling about. After pushing zero a few times, she hung up on me!
Well, as most of you know, I have 6 children and it just so happened that having a fussy toddler at the time of my call to FedEx was a huge blessing in disguise. I learned a trick to get through to an actual human without having to go through a huge hassle with the automated telephone information system.
A few days ago when I was on the phone with the robot at FedEx, my toddler just kept screaming in the background. Every time she (the auto attendant) would start to talk, she would stop again because she thought my toddler screaming was me talking (or I guess screaming at her). After she started to talk then stopped again due to the fussing about 5 times, I was sent over to speak with a human!
Unfortunately for me (but maybe fortunately for you!) I had to call into FedEx again today. I decided to see if it was the fussing that helped me to get through or just a lucky day for me. So, today when the robot started talking, every time she talked I started making crying baby noises. Now, I’m sure I sounded ridiculous, and to be honest, I felt ridiculous. I was laughing in between the fake crying noises I made but, you guys, IT WORKED! My baby crying worked and I was put through to a human again right away!
It definitely felt weird to make crying baby noises to an automated machine, but I will do it again and again if I don’t have to deal with those!
I’m super excited about my newfound knowledge and sharing it with you in case you have to call into FedEx customer service this holiday season too! I bet you could try this trick with other phone tree systems too and get patched over to a human as well!

Oh my Lord!!! I started screaming “Waaaa!” “Waaaaa!” After my 3rd “Waaaa!” I was hearing hold music, then spoke to a human. Please contact me and I will send $ to your 6 kids college fund!!!

I found a better solution, when the automated person asks what you’re calling about say “complaint” you will instantly be connected to someone.

You made my day with this too funny post. If making crying baby sounds gets me through to a real person I will do it everytime.

@Jennie, say “Waaaa!” When the computer lady is talking. It works after the 3rd “Waaaa!” every time. 😁 “Waaaaa!”

You tried making crying noises or tried pushing 0? When I tried pushing zero a few times they hang up. But the crying worked for me. Just stop every few seconds to give the lady a chance to start talking again...then cry for like 5 seconds...then let her start talking...after a few times she puts you through to a human, at least, that's been my experience!
