I always have horrible, horrible pregnancy heartburn. I strive to live a natural life, especially while pregnant. I try to stay away from over-the-counter drugs unless they are absolutely necessary and always opt for a natural, drug-free birth. It wasn’t until my third pregnancy I discovered a natural remedy for my heartburn (completely by accident) that really WORKED. All you need is fresh lemons and water! I was SO thankful to have found this remedy that I wanted to share it with you. All you need is water and a fresh lemon.
- Wash your lemon with soap and water. Yes, use some soap. Those things are handled by so many people in the grocery stores, you want to make sure it’s clean. I heard one time that lemons and limes are the dirtiest produce items. While you might be thinking it doesn’t matter because you’ll be squeezing the juice into your glass and not dropping the whole thing in, remember that the act of slicing it open can transfer germs from the outside of the lemon, to the knife, then to the inside of the lemon. So, just wash and rinse well.
- 2. Cut the lemon in half and then squeeze it into an 8 ounce glass of water. I purchased a lemon squeezer and it really helps to ensure I get all of the juice out.
- 3. Drink it! If you find the lemon taste to be too strong, you can add extra water, but try to drink it all within about 20 minutes.
Generally within 30 minutes of drinking my lemon water, my heartburn would be gone. You don’t have to just take my word for it though. The people at Natural News recommend lemon water for heartburn and acid reflux too. The lemon juice works to neutralize the stomach acid.
I drank lemon water for the last 15 weeks or so of my pregnancy and it almost always cured my heartburn. Towards the end there were times when it didn’t completely cure it, but it still helped. I grew to love the lemon water so much that I still drink it even though I’m not longer pregnant.
