Homemade Strawberry Romaine Salad Recipe

One of my main motivators in life is definitely food. I LOVE to eat! When I was a teen and even in my early 20s, you’d just have to throw me some McDonalds and I’d be happy. Unfortunately, as I’ve gotten older, it’s not that simple anymore! I prefer food with more flavors as well as better quality ingredients.

No matter what occasion you’re looking to plan a menu for, this Strawberry Romaine Salad is perfect! The flavors are fresh, crisp, and mouth-watering good. However, I find the best part being that it’s absolutely a breeze to whip up as well! Whether you’re a newbie or experienced in the kitchen, this salad won’t let you down.

Homemade Strawberry Romaine Salad Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 head romaine lettuce
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced (the thinner, the better!)
  • 3/4 cup mayo
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds

Instructions:

As mentioned, this salad is super yummy and so easy to make! It’s seriously my favorite lettuce salad.

  1. Gently tear up the lettuce and place in a large salad bowl.
  2. Slice up the red onion as thinly as you possibly can. Toss into salad.
  3. Slice up the strawberries into thin slabs too. Toss into salad. Cover and refrigerate for later.
  4. Mix on dressing ingredients: mayo, sugar, vinegar, milk, and poppy seeds. Stir well or place in a salad shaker and shake well.
  5. Refrigerate the dressing for at least one hour if possible; overnight is best. If time doesn’t allow, you can serve immediately but flavors are best when there’s time to chill it.
  6. Drizzle salad with dressing right before serving.
  7. Enjoy!

Special Notes:

  • Feel free to mix up the flavors by swapping out the romaine lettuce with other greens! I like to add spinach into my salad along with the romaine too. Another thing I’ve done is use bags of mixed lettuces. Choose your favorites to add the flavors you love to this recipe.
  • If strawberries are out of season, feel free to replace with craisins as a more affordable alternative.
  • If you don’t have time to refrigerate the homemade dressing, it can be served immediately. The flavors are just best when chilled for a bit.

I'm curious about it but I'm really skeptical of strawberries in a non-fruit salad.

I like the addition of fruit to a salad. It really gives more flavor. This is a salad that I will be making.
