Have you heard about Highlights For Children? This popular company has been around, delighting children, since the 1940s. I first fell in love with Highlights when I was a kid. Their magazines drew me in with fun articles, neat pictures, and a variety of activities. Now that I have kids of my own, they are also receiving Highlights each month. But recently, I learned that Highlights actually offers products for kids of ALL ages, including BABIES!
Raising Smart Babies – Top 5 Tips On How To Raise A Smart Baby
Before we get into Highlights for kids of all ages, I want to talk about some awesome tips on how to raise a smart baby.
1) Avoid Harmful Substances During Pregnancy
Your baby‘s brain begins to form during your pregnancy. So it’s important to avoid substances known to be harmful to your baby’s brain development. Also important is getting adequate nutrition that benefits your baby’s brain development like folic acid and fish oil.
2) Baby Wear
Once your baby is here, consider wearing him or her. There are many benefits to wearing your child but I will list just a few:
- More Content baby
- Offers Bonding Opportunities
- Allows For Parents To Have Hands Free Carrying, Snuggling, and Working While Enjoying baby
- Aids In baby‘s Development
- Promotes Early Language Development
- Decreases Flat Head Syndrome
- Decreases The Risk Of SIDS
- And More
3) If Possible, At Least Try To Breastfeed
We all know that a baby needs to be fed. While there’s been movements and pushes for formula, a mother’s body is made to breastfeed. {Check out our Breastfeeding 101 post for tons of resources.) I’ve met lots of women who regret at least not trying to breastfeed their child. None of the women in my life have voiced regret for giving it a go, even if it didn’t work out. So if you’re expecting, consider giving breastfeeding a go.
4) Do Activities With Your Baby
Playing and interacting with your baby will help to stimulate the brain and senses.
5) Read To Your Baby
No, your little one may not understand all the words you’re reading to them. That’s okay though! Your loving voice along with the visual stimulation helps to make reading a pleasurable experience for children as they grow up. Reading to your baby is a great way to spend quality time together, building relationship and enjoying physical contact.
