Great Jones Family Style Cookware Set Review: Is It Worth Investing In Higher Quality Cookware?

As a mom to six and a former foster mom, I’m ALL about finding ways to stretch the budget. When you’re feeding a large family, those everyday expenses add up quickly. Especially these days! But, over the years, I’ve also learned that there are definitely places where it makes sense to splurge a little. Sometimes buying the better-quality item upfront instead of purchasing something cheaper means I don’t have to continually replace it.

Cookware falls into that category for me.

I haven’t always been someone who cared much about cookware… mostly because I wasn’t exactly magically gifted in the kitchen! When I first got married, I was super excited to cook for my new husband. Unfortunately, it turns out enthusiasm doesn’t automatically equal talent. HA! Who knew?! Thankfully, practice makes better, though! (So if this describes you, don’t give up just yet.)

These days, the internet makes it SO much easier to find recipes, read reviews, troubleshoot problems, and have a better shot at actually making something delicious. I definitely could have used that help when I was newly married. Soup was especially my nemesis. After I messed it up AGAIN, my husband ever so kindly told me, “You don’t have to make soup anymore.” Thanks, honey….

Thankfully, these days I have much more confidence in the kitchen. I’ve collected some really great recipes that my family loves. I’m not afraid to experiment a little, and yes, I’ve even figured out how to make soup! And now, I’m super excited to have a beautiful cookware set from Great Jones to cook it all in too.

Works On All Stove Types

We recently got a new stove that features an induction top. Well, guess what? My old cookware wasn’t compatible! So I appreciate how the Great Jones Family Style Cookware Set features cookware that’s also compatible with all stovetops, including induction.

Space Saving Design

Another thoughtful feature is the space-saving design. These cookware pieces nest together. And multiple pieces can even share the included lids. Sometimes the phrase ‘less is more’ is truly accurate!

The Dutchess

One of my favorite pieces in this set is The Dutchess. It’s Great Jones’ enameled cast-iron Dutch oven. And a good Dutch oven can do SO much in the kitchen. Think: soups and stews (don’t worry, remember I’ve improved!), braised meats, roasts, pasta dishes, and all those comforting one-pot meals that are especially wonderful once Minnesota winter rolls around.

The cast-iron construction means this isn’t a lightweight pot. That’s immediately apparent when you pick it up. But the substantial construction is also part of what gives it such a high-quality feel. And because you get to choose the color, The Dutchess is pretty enough that I don’t mind leaving it sitting on the stovetop. I LOVE the white I picked. (But I admit it was super hard to choose because I was loving all the colors!)

The Family Style Set Also Includes:

• Big Deal: Great for large families, it’s the kind of roomy stainless-steel pot I know will get a LOT of use in our house over the years. It’s great when cooking larger batches of pasta, soup, potatoes, or other family-sized meals. So basically, it’s my go-to.
• Deep Cut: Not your standard frying pan! It’s the type of versatile cookware that offers the extra depth that’s handy for browning meat, sautéing vegetables, making sauces, and more.
• Saucy: The Saucy is the smaller saucepan-style piece in this collection. I tend to grab it for the times I’m making smaller portions, reheating leftovers, cooking vegetables, and little everyday kitchen jobs.
• Large Fry: It’s the everyday stainless-steel frying pan that’s perfect for eggs, meats, vegetables, pancakes, and everything in between. Even though I tend to reach for the Deep Cut more often, the Large Fry is still extremely useful to me.
• Two Lids Help Keep Things Simple: If you’re more of a minimalist or just prefer multi-function; you’ll appreciate how you get a Big Lid and Small Lid rather than an individual lid for every single pot and pan. Having interchangeable lids means fewer pieces cluttering up the cabinet. Combine that with the nesting design of the cookware itself, and Great Jones has clearly put some thought into storage as well as cooking. (Of course, you can purchase additional Big Lids if you do want one for each cookware piece.)

Is Higher-Quality Cookware Worth The Investment?

I’ve reached a point in life where I don’t automatically choose the least expensive option anymore. Sometimes inexpensive absolutely makes sense. Other times, buying the cheap version means I’m replacing it again and again. Which means I’ll have spent as much or more than had I just purchased something better in the first place.

Cookware is something I use constantly. Like every single day.

Consider how many breakfasts, lunches, dinners, birthday meals, holiday dishes, and random dinner parties you’ll prepare over the years. Cookware is an item that has the potential to be one of the hardest-working things in your home! Because of that, quality is very important when it comes to cookware.

I want pieces that cook well, are versatile enough to use for multiple recipes, and don’t need to be replaced. Not just that… I also appreciate cookware that’s beautiful. Great Jones checks these boxes for me. Their cookware moves from stove to table seamlessly.

Final Thoughts: Is the Great Jones Family Style Cookware Set Worth It?

I am completely blown away by the quality of Great Jones. From the moment I started handling these pieces, the difference between this set and some of the inexpensive cookware I’ve owned over the years was obvious. Everything feels sturdy, thoughtfully designed, and made for people who actually spend time cooking.

I also love the combination of materials. Instead of an entirely stainless-steel or entirely cast-iron collection, the Family Style set offers both! Add in the nesting design, shared lids, induction compatibility, and the gorgeous Dutchess; and it feels like a very well-rounded collection.

If I’m buying something I’m going to use several times a week for years to come, I’d much rather invest. For cookware, I want pieces I’ll genuinely enjoy using. And while higher quality cookware is definitely more expensive up front; I feel the investment is worth the payoff on this.
