A Bit Of Fostering Background-

I’ve shared a little about fostering journey over the years but I thought it was time for an update. We originally started fostering about eight years ago. Even though we closed our home after just two years, we cared for (around) 25 children during that time. We thought that chapter of our lives was over and ‘moved on’. Well, over 7 months ago, we received a message from family friends asking if we were still fostering. –We were not.– However, they gave our names to the judge and kiddo was placed in our home the very next day.

**NOTE: When it’s a ‘kin’ or ‘fictive kin’ placement, as in our case, they allow things to run backwards. In a normal situation, you need to take the classes, fill out the paperwork, get licensed, and THEN accept a child into your home. In our case, because we had a relationship with the family, we were considered ‘fictive kin’. So we were able to take the child in and then go through the licensing process afterwards. As of three months ago, we are officially and legally licensed for foster care again.

So Now What?

Well, we spend our weeks caring for our new toddler, taking him to visits and appointments, and just waiting to see how everything plays out. In the fostering life, nothing is certain until the dotted line is signed. We’ve had cases we were told that would last a year, only to have the kids go home within three months. We had one child come, with the county stating fast-track adoption. He also left to go to a home that had three of his five half sisters. So right now, we honestly just don’t know how this will end. And new on the home front is the fact that bio mom is due with a new baby in September! We don’t know if mom will be allowed to parent or if baby will come to us — although we’ve been told to prepare just in case. So that’s what we’re doing now!
