When my husband and I were married, I quickly realized how hard it was going to be to try to shop each year for presents for his side of the family. If I asked him what we should buy them, he would shrug his shoulders. If I asked THEM what they wanted, I received a similar response. So, being the problem solver I am, I sat them all down and laid it all out.
You see, at Christmas, your family and friends are generally going to get you a gift. If you don’t tell them what you want, you are still going to get something and they are still going to spend money. So, why not let them know what you want, so they can purchase an item for you that you will truly like. Otherwise, they are just wasting money, and who wants that?! We came to an agreement that on Thanksgiving Day that year (and every year since), when we all show up to eat our big meal together, we will also show up with Christmas/Birthday present ideas on a list to distribute. If you don’t bring a list, you don’t get lists from everyone else. It’s that simple! I still remember that first year as we were distributing Christmas gifts that my brother in law remarked at what a good idea it had been. Shopping was easy, everyone was happy; it just makes sense! I had just been thinking about starting up my new list when I was contacted about writing a sponsored post about the website Giftster. Wow, the timing couldn’t have been better! I was so thrilled with the website, I quickly said, “yes!”
To put it simply, Giftster is an online website that allows you to organize your gift list, your children’s gift lists, and share them with your friends and family. I started working on my list right away. My birthday is in November, so typically I am asked to have it ready sooner than everyone else. Creating an account is simple and FREE. I had my account setup and started adding items in less than 3 minutes.
Adding items to your list is really simple. You just click “add item” and then describe the item you’d like. There are options like a link to the item, where to buy, price, and details. You can even rate your item 1-5 stars, so your friends and family know which items you would like the most.
I have been working hard on my list over the past few days. I still need to think of some other ideas for my list, but I’ve got it started!
Once you have made your list, now it’s time to share it. You have a few options. If you want, you can just print it out and distribute. But, if your family is computer savvy, an even better way to share your list is directly from Giftster. Giftster enables you to create groups and everyone within that group can share their lists. Not only can you share your lists with everyone else, but they can then update your list to show the items they have purchased, without you being able to see what gifts you’ll be receiving! You can also create lists for each of your children, that way Grandma and Grandpa don’t buy the same gift you buy. It’s genius!
I am SO happy to have found Giftster! I’m going to start working on a list for Maggie and Jacob tomorrow. I’ll be showing family our lists this year and asking that they upload theirs to Giftster as well! To find out more about Giftster and start your own lists, visit www.giftster.com. Gift giving has never been easier!
