I’ve partnered with Kids Things for this post.
Lately, I have been feeling overwhelmed. I mean, really overwhelmed. I’m running a business full-time with my husband, taking care of 4 children (including homeschooling two of them), and helping my husband lead the youth group at our church — among my other duties as wife and mom. People ask me sometimes how I do it all and the answer is simply, I’m running sunup to well-past sundown, non-stop, to get most of it done.
It’s become clear to me that I need to get help in a few areas of my life. It was at the moment that I was realizing I HAD to get some help that I received an email about a new website, Kids Things. You guys, I get hundreds of emails a day (literally, it’s not an exaggeration) and so many of them just end up right in my trashcan, but this one popped out at me because it was offering exactly what I need at this moment in my life: a personal shopping assistant for my kids.
Do you know how many hours I spend every quarter shopping for clothes and shoes for my kids? With 4 little ones, always growing like crazy, it feels like someone constantly needs new shoes or shirts or underwear. It’s seriously never ending it seems. And living in West Virginia, we have the seasonal changes to deal with. No sooner do I finally have their summer wardrobe complete that then it’s heading into fall and I need to scramble for new clothes. There was a time when I loved to shop for clothes for my kids, back when I had just 1 or 2 and my life was a little less chaotic, but now it’s just one more task I have to spend hours trying to complete……..with 4 kids in tow.
So, insert Kids Things. To put it simply, you visit this website, put in your cell phone number and a personal shopping assistant will text you within a few minutes to discuss your needs.
I had 2 reservations about using Kids Things:
- I was nervous about the costs/fees associated with it. I’m “Thrifty” Nifty Mommy for a reason. And with 4 kids, I can’t pay $50 for one outfit for my kids (that they will outgrow in a few short months or stain after 1 meal).
- I was afraid the options I would be given wouldn’t suit my style (especially the ones in my price range).
BUT – here’s the thing, it’s FREE to try it out. Not only that, but there are no fees for using the service, ever. Just the cost of the clothing, which is provided to you when your personal shopper sends suggestions to you, based on your preferences. Plus they offer FREE shipping! With nothing to lose, I gave it a try and the options blew me away, literally.
I asked my personal shopper to help me with 2 tasks. The first was to help me find a gift for someone close to me who just found out she’s expecting (her first!). Since we’re close and I know how excited she is, I wanted to get her a small gift now to celebrate. She doesn’t know the gender yet, so I really was at a loss as to what to get her. I know, had I gone out shopping, I would have spent hours at the mall trying to pick something out. My personal shopper sent over a few suggestions to me in less than an hour.
First she sent me a lot of gift ideas that are more “for mom” kind of gifts.
They were all really good ideas, I especially liked the body pillow suggestion because I feel like that something I could have used but never splurged to spend the money on myself for that. I then asked her if she had any items that would be gender neutral for baby and she sent these suggestions:
The adorable elephant bathrobe reminded me that the mom-to-be actually already purchased some elephant things for the new baby, so I asked to see more elephant items and she showed me these:
Aren’t they all adorable?! Soo, here’s the problem though. Now that I’ve been offered so many adorable choices, I’m not sure what to choose! Can you help me? If you were pregnant with your first, what item(s) would you most like to receive? I’m trying to stick to a budget of $50 or less since we’ll have a shower later and I’ll get her some gender-specific items then and items from her registry. Will you comment here or on Facebook and let me know which item(s) you’d choose for yourself? I would appreciate it SO very much!
The other thing I asked the personal shopper to help me with was finding some outfits for Gideon, my 19 month old son. He needs some warmer clothes for winter – a few casual pieces but also come clothes for church. My personal shopper sent me so many cute outfits to choose from! Check these out:
I have a soft spot for suspenders on boys so when I saw that last set, I asked if she had any more similiar outfits and she sent me these.
I’m dying over the cuteness factor with those! I’m fairly certain Gideon is getting at least one of those outfits! I mean, they are just SO adorable! I also asked if she had other budget-friendly casual pieces and she sent me these options:
Again, I am having such a hard time deciding which ones to get for him! I need your help!! I’m trying to stick to a budget of $150 for him. Which outfits are your favorites? I’d love to hear, either in the comments below or on Facebook.
Obviously, since I’m asking for your help, I haven’t placed my order yet. So far, the process has been SO easy and such a time saver for me! And honestly, I’m thrilled with the results so far. These prices are as good as I could get going out and spending hours shopping myself. I love the whole process has taken me less than 15 minutes. Just a few texts back and forth with my personal shopper. The personal shopper hasn’t been pushy or anything but helpful! She’s even offered to keep searching for me if I didn’t like the options presented to me. Oh, AND I texted on a holiday (Labor Day) and still received a reply within minutes!
If you’re a busy mom like me (or a grandma, aunt, friend, etc. who is purchasing a gift and could use some assistance finding something great), check out Kids Things!
Once I place my order, I will check back in and let you know how everything went but again, PLEASE help me make a decision on what to order. I feel so conflicted with all of these great choices! Thank you!
