When we renovated our home a couple years ago, we did some major rearranging. You can see photos of our old office/school room and learn about the cost of our home office remodel here. Since that original day, we’ve switched up our space and furniture several times trying to find the perfect combination as well as making changes as the kids have grown.
Originally, we started with four kids desks plus mine in the space. As our older two became teens and started college classes, they needed a quieter work space so their desks were moved to bedrooms. Lucy started homeschooling a couple years ago so we also had to add a desk back in for her as well. So currently, we’re at three student desks/work stations plus a work space for me. (You can learn more about the kids’ work space over here where I share about how to homeschool.)
Several years ago, I had upgraded from a small desk to a larger L-shaped desk, thinking the additional space would be helpful for both blogging and helping kids with homeschooling. It turns out that extra space simply became a dumping ground. So recently, I was on the hunt to downsize (and upgrade) my desk to something a bit more functional. Since Ruby likes to be worn for her daytime naps, a standing/adjustable desk was on my radar. I found just what I was looking for over at Flexispot and am thrilled to partner with them for this review.
The Flexispot E8
The E8 Adjustable Standing Desk caught my eye because it offered the features I was specifically looking for; namely: being able to adjust to a variety of sitting and standing heights.
What Is A Standing / Adjustable Desk
A desk that is strictly a standing desk is just like it sounds; it’s a desk that allows you to work in a standing position.
An adjustable standing desk is also an adjustable sitting desk. This means, if you find the average-height desk (29 to 30 inches) too high or too low, you can lower your adjustable standing desk or raise it so that you can sit or stand more comfortably and ergonomically to the height of your preference.
Benefits Of A Standing / Adjustable Desk
- An improved working environment.
- Fewer chronic problems.
- Better posture reduces back problems.
- Prevention of muscle inactivity.
- Much more comfortable for working.
- Better comfort brings higher satisfaction.
Advocates of standing desks tend to point at studies showing that after a meal, blood sugar levels return to normal faster on days a person spends more time standing. Not only that, but standing, rather than sitting, may reduce the risk of shoulder and back pain. Being able to stand and work at your computer (or desk) is better for keeping your spine in normal alignment. Standing offers a more naturally engaging position for your abdominal muscles, resulting in a properly aligned spine and optimal use of your back and neck muscles.
Flexispot E8 Standing Desk Review
The E8 desk is custom ordered and you get to choose from a variety of options as you design your desk. First off, you start by deciding if you just want the adjustable base or if you need the desktop too. If so, you can choose from: chipboard, bamboo, fiberboard, solid wood texture, or solid wood.
I chose the solid wood texture in the black walnut. From there, it’s time to select the size workspace you need. There are four size options and I went with the smallest which is 48″ x 24″. (You can choose all the way up to 72″ x 30″!)
The last step is to decide on a frame color. Those choices include black, white, and grey.
Assembly was easier than we thought! Everything was packaged well and all the elements arrived in perfect shape. The pieces are heavy, which also means they are solid and well made. I’d say assembly is definitely a two person job. It took my husband and teenage son about 45 minutes to put my desk together; start to finish.
The instructions were well-written and easy to follow. The holes in the wood desktop were predrilled which made the whole process super easy and foolproof. Even the wiring came with good diagrams to ensure things were plugged in where they belong.

There is so much to love about this desk! It’s visually appealing and works exactly as it should. I especially like:
- Oval Leg Design: This uniquely designed standing desk brings an extra aesthetic appeal to any working space. The base of the legs also are angled which helps prevent stubbed toes.
- Powerful Dual Motor Lifting System: The enhanced structure ensures stability even when at maximum capacity and at the highest setting. The powerful motor glides up and down smoothly and is also surprisingly quiet.
- Multi-Function Touch Keypad: The L8 desk comes with an LED touch screen and this advanced keypad offers you a premium operation experience. I especially love that it allows me to lock my setting since the kids and I are sharing our work space. The touch screen is very sensitive and, before I began to lock it, was easily bumped and adjusted unintentionally.
- Enhanced Safety Features: Safety first! The built-in safety features detects and prevents collisions before they happen which is reassuring as I switch from sitting to standing often. And as mentioned above, you can even lock the height position and then deactivate the lock to adjust again.
Overall, I adore my L8 Adjustable Standing Desk. It was so nice to be able to customize the color and size of my new desk to fit my needs. I’m especially enjoying the flexibility it offers for working positions as well. My husband also appreciates the adjustability since there’s quite a height difference between us and what’s comfortable for me, typically isn’t for him. Being able to adjust the desk up and down makes it a perfect fit for both of us!
Whether standing or sitting, the E8 has been a great update to my work space and I’m loving the flexibility it offers me.
