I received a complimentary two-night stay at The House On Bonnie Court in exchange for my honest opinion. As always, my opinions are my own.
I love planning family vacations! Some statistics on the internet claim people find more joy in planning a vacation than actually taking a vacation. Isn’t that crazy!? Even the countdown to taking a vacation that you have planned is a thrill. (Paper chain countdowns anyone!?!) The last trip I planned was a family vacation to Sioux Falls South Dakota and I’m excited to share it with you.
Now, if you are from Sioux Falls or you live close by, kudos to you! What a fun city to go visit. I have been to Sioux Falls for an adult vacation and now for a family vacation with young children. I am telling you, this city is for all ages! If you don’t believe me, check it for yourself! I want to give you a glimpse of my family vacation to Sioux Falls South Dakota as I truly think you will be planning this exact vacation for your next family getaway. And hopefully, I will help make it super easy for you to do so!
Family Vacation To Sioux Falls South Dakota!
I am going to walk you through my most recent family vacation to Sioux Falls South Dakota.
From Minnesota To South Dakota
I am from Central Minnesota, so a road trip to Sioux Falls South Dakota is about a 4-hour drive. I have two children ages 5 and 1 (almost 2.) They have never been on a car ride longer than an hour and a half and they get car sick. Do you think I am crazy for planning this vacation yet? I was a bit nervous to start but I planned accordingly and made it happen. Here is my list of things I packed for the car ride.
- Color book & crayons
- Fidget toys
- A lot of snacks (eating small snacks keeps motion sickness at bay)
- Fuzzy blanket
- Small pillow
- Water bottles
- Children’s books (for me to read to my kids because books can cause motion sickness)
Another tip I have for you is to dress them in cozy clothes. Make your child feel comfortable and relaxed. It would also be ideal if you planned the car trip over your child’s usual nap time. That way, they will hopefully sleep for at least an hour or two!
A Place To Stay In Sioux Falls
I tried something new for this vacation that I had never experienced before… I booked an Airbnb! We had an entire house to ourselves and it was amazing! We did not have to worry about kids running down hallways, hearing footsteps from people walking above our room, or not having enough space in a mini fridge for a gallon of milk (my kids love milk.) This specific Airbnb even allowed us to park our vehicle in the garage! — A huge benefit considering it was 5 degrees with a -25-degree wind chill the night we arrived. — I think we chose the coldest weekend to travel.
The House On Bonnie Court
I have always wanted to try an Airbnb but have been more reserved about the idea of staying in someone else’s house. Plus, I was worried that it would be more difficult to book and get in to versus a hotel. But this was not the case! The house felt like a fancy hotel that my family had all to ourselves. It was extremely clean and up-to-date.
The House On Bonnie Court had everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. The house was stocked with kitchen utensils, coffee mugs, to-go-cups, Keurig with K-cups, bathroom towels, soaps, TV, video games (a Nintendo Switch & classic N-64), board games, cozy blankets, gas fireplace, comfortable queen beds, bunk beds (in one of the rooms), sound machine (in each room), a basketball court, and my favorite feature… a PRIVATE pool & hot tub! This is not the whole list my fellow readers, but I just wanted to give you an ideal of how stocked this place truly is. You won’t be disappointed with your stay.
I packed my family breakfast, but we used DoorDash to deliver food for other meals. There were endless choices but in the end, we chose Chick-fil-A and Domino’s Pizza.
My husband, my two kids, and I went on vacation with two of my brothers, their significant others, and my two nephews. In total we had 6 adults and 4 kids staying at The House On Bonnie Court. We had a great time lounging, playing board games, and sitting in the hot tub. The kids had a blast running around the house, enjoying the toys provided on site, and also playing ‘floor is lava’ with the blankets and pillows from the couches. We didn’t have to worry about other people or how loud we were all being. Oh, and I almost forgot the best part! They have a cleaning service come in after each stay, so you do not have a checkout list to complete before leaving! We just packed up our items and headed home.
I HAVE to plan another family stay at this Airbnb again to use the basketball court and private pool in the summertime! (Seriously, this pool and deck look absolutely DREAMY!) If you would like to learn more about The House On Bonnie Court Airbnb or reserve it for yourself, you will find that info here.
More Sioux Falls Fun
The Washington Pavilion – A Children’s Museum
While we were in Sioux Falls, we visited the Washington Pavilion. This is a must-see with kids! There were three floors. The first floor was mostly made up of space exploration, the second floor was mainly about dinosaur discoveries, and the third floor explored health and physical activity. There was also a small deli where you could sit down for a meal if anyone gets hungry.
We really loved the exploring space and H2O workshop. My daughter and son could’ve played at this exhibit for hours.
All four of the kids in our group had so much fun digging for fossils!
There was also an amazing indoor playground that helped to burn off some energy before heading back the the Airbnb.
My daughter ran up to me multiple times while we were at the Washington Pavilion saying that this was the best day ever! I loved seeing the excitement in her eyes as well as watching my son wandering around each exhibit. I can only imagine what was going through his little mind.
In my opinion, I feel that this science and art center is great from age 1 to age 12. Maybe even beyond because I enjoyed the Washington Pavilion as an adult!
Overall Thoughts On Our Family Vacation to Sioux Falls South Dakota
We truly had a wonderful time during our mini vacation in Sioux Falls. As we ended our stay and packed up our things to make the 4-hour drive back home, we were so sad to leave the House On Bonnie Court. This home exceeded our expectations of an Airbnb and we definitely can’t wait to go back!
