Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. And over the years I’ve realized that some of my favorite memories aren’t just about the candy; they’re about the costumes. While plenty of families dress up individually… (I know we did for years), there’s just something extra special about coordinating a group costume that turns heads and creates unforgettable memories.
Group Halloween Costumes Are So Much FUN!
Growing up, my aunts and uncles went all out with group-themed Halloween costumes every single year. As a kid, I absolutely loved seeing what they came up with. And even now—more than 30 years later—I still remember so many of them! One year they were colorful trolls; wigs, Hawaiian hula skirts, and all. Another year, they went with a creepy ghosts and goblins theme. My personal favorite was when they all dressed as clowns. Their costumes, and all the fun they had together, left such a lasting impression on me.
Now that I have a family of my own, I’ve continued the tradition. For several years we’ve chosen coordinating family Halloween costumes. It has honestly become one of our favorite annual traditions! Everywhere we go people stop us to compliment the costumes and tell us how much they love seeing a family dress up together. Even our kids look forward to choosing our next theme!
And if the reaction we got from passers-by while we doing our photo shoot is any inclination to what Halloween is going to look like, we will be a smashing success!
This Year’s Theme: Disney’s Beauty And The Beast
This year, I let our four-year-old decide what our family would be for Halloween. She’s completely obsessed with princesses and absolutely loves Disney. So it probably won’t surprise anyone that she immediately chose Beauty And The Beast! And it’ll come as no surprise who she wanted to be.

Our middle son is incredibly tall and skinny, making him the absolute perfect Lumiere. I honestly can’t imagine anyone wearing that costume better!

If you’ve never coordinated a family Halloween costume before, I can’t recommend it enough. Every single year we’ve done this, we’ve received dozens of compliments. Here in Minnesota, several nearby towns host Main Street trick-or-treat events. When dressed as a coordinating group, walking through downtown becomes an experience all by itself! We can barely make it ten feet without someone stopping us to compliment the costumes, ask for a picture, or tell us how much they love seeing our family dress up together.
