Do you remember what you got from your spouse last year for Christmas? How about 5 years ago or 10 years ago? What about your kids and the things you purchased for them? Is everyone still using and enjoying those gifts are have they been long forgotten? Have there been items you spent lots of money on and deeply regretted later because they were such a waste of money? (I can certainly say I’ve felt this way!)
When I look back over the last few years and even my own childhood, it’s not the physical gifts I received that I really remember. Sure there were a few toys here and there that I remember playing with for years, but overall, it’s not the toys that bring back those fond memories at Christmastime, it’s the time I spent with my family. It’s the meaningful things we did together, making memories and enjoying life.
This year for Christmas, as your giving physical gifts to your loved ones, I’d like to take a moment to encourage you to consider investing your money into a gift that will be more meaningful: providing for your family should you unexpectedly pass away. Yes, I’m talking about life insurance.
I know, I know – I started talking about Christmas and this blog post took a morbid turn, but life insurance is important! Now that I’m in my 30’s, I find that I know more and more peers who have suddenly passed away, whether in a car accident, cancer, or some other way. So many of us go through life just day by day and not thinking about the future, until it’s too late.
I’m guilty myself of putting off life insurance just like anyone else. In fact, it wasn’t until after our 4th child was born that my husband and I really even starting thinking about life insurance! He had always had a small amount through his work, but truly, it wasn’t enough. This past year we finally got serious about it and I am SO glad we did! Paying for life insurance means that at Christmastime, our gift budget is a little bit less this year. However, I would much rather have a little bit less to spend on gifts now (that probably won’t be used for long anyway) and know that if something were to happen to me, my family would not only have money ready for a funeral and burial, but my husband would have extra finances to continue to take care of our family.
Life Insurance Is Scary!
This was my first thought as my husband and I started looking into life insurance. I had no idea what we needed to look for or where to look for it! We just knew we needed it.
So began a long, probably 4-5 week process of securing life insurance for ourselves. It involved a lot of phone calls, a physical, and a dreaded blood draw. I know, I know, I’ve given birth 4 times and that shouldn’t be an issue, but you guys, I HATE having blood drawn. I nearly faint every time. It’s just the worst and I wanted to back out over that factor alone! Getting life insurance was a huge pain, and I don’t just mean physically.
Finally, probably 6-7 weeks after we started looking into it, we finally had life insurance. But, I thought to myself, it shouldn’t have to be this complicated?!
I Wish I’d Found Ethos Sooner!
I know, I just told you you should get life insurance and then told you what a pain it is….but I’ve since learned that it doesn’t have to be! There is a brand new life insurance company that was designed with everyday people, like you and me, in mind! It’s called Ethos.
Ethos, as I mentioned above, was designed for people like you and me. Moms and dads who aren’t financial experts or wealthy individuals, but we know our family needs protection and we want to make that happen. Ethos makes life insurance simple, quick, and cheap! It’s insurance you buy online, not through some pushy salesperson.
Who Needs Life Insurance?
If you’re financially responsible for another person, you need life insurance! This also includes stay-at-home moms because, while you might not be the one bringing home money each week, if something were to happen to you, your husband would need to start paying for a babysitter and possibly housekeeper. It’s also a good thing to have so that others aren’t burdened with the cost of your final expenses (things like the funeral, burial or cremation, medical bills, etc.).
What is Term Life Insurance?
You’ve probably heard the terms whole life insurance and term life insurance. And, if you’re like me, you have no idea when you start looking into insurance which one you should go with. My husband and I did a lot of research and we decided to go with term life insurance because it was the affordable option for us and the coverage we felt we needed with 4 children.
Ethos offers term life insurance, which simply means that, as long as you pay your premium every month, you’ll have life insurance for a set number of years (anywhere from 10-30 years). When your term ends, you can always sign up for a new term (as long as you aren’t over the age of 75). Term life insurance does NOT mean once you sign up, you can never cancel during the time commitment. In fact, with Ethos Term Life Insurance, you can cancel at any time.
What does Ethos do?
This may be the most important question of all! What DOES Ethos really do? Well, if you have life insurance through Ethos and you pass away, you beneficiary (most likely your spouse) will receive a tax-free check to cover expenses. Things like the mortgage, groceries, a babysitter, college, and all the other things parents need money for.
Why Choose Ethos?
There are lots of companies out there that sell life insurance, but none of them are as simple as Ethos. Sign-up takes only about 10 minutes and it’s all done online. (Yay!) Nearly all applicants won’t need a physical or the dreaded blood work. Instead of taking the 5+ weeks it took my husband and I to secure our life insurance, you could have yours after a quick 10 minutes online! I LOVE how simple Ethos has made life insurance! There are no pushy sales people! You can even get a quick FREE quote online without having to provide your email address! Plus, if that’s not enough to convince you, it’s also really affordable!
Ethos was designed for a new generation of adults. Those of us who want to do everything fast and online!
